Hey guys so i need help with overclocking my cpu mostly cause it overheats and has a slow clock speed cause of that heating I tried to replace the thermal paste and stuff but I am unsure why it still having issues so I am quite unsure this is what I have at the moment for my CPU and cache my igpu is undervolted by -20 I have an i7 4720hq 4c 8t 16gb of ram speed 1600mhz ddr3 quite slow I know and ipgu of intel hd 4600 and a gtx 965m 2gb so the photo I have is basically I know what to do safely without crashing I keep using the ts benchmark to just see if it crashes when underload or not and right now its stable if anyone's got better ideas on how to improve this i'd love to hear you out. Forgot to mention its a laptop

Rather than overclocking/undervolting, what are you using to cool it? What case do you have? How many fans on the case? Is she dusty?

Your cpu is only a 47W cpu, so sould be able to be kept under control with a stiff breeze (hyperbole...just to clarify)

System specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D [-30 PBO all core]

GPU: Sapphire AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX NITRO+

Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO RGB 32GB 6000MHz CL32 DDR5

Storage: 2TB SN850X, 1TB SN850 w/ heatsink, 500GB P5 Plus (OS Storage)

Case: 5000D AIRFLOW

Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140

PSU: Corsair RM850e

Case Fans: Fractal Prisma (120 x6, 140 x3) + 2x40mm fans

I am guessing its a laptop due to the  i7 4720hq and GTXm version of a GPU.

What temps? And what clockspeed during cinebench?

i use throttlestop and occt right now I can do 2.9 with a lot of undervolt and a I reach like 80-90 no overheating now though I am unsure why its like that with overheating or thermal throttling I think that's the better way to say it

Did you do a proper full spread of the paste on the chips die?

Deep clean the fans and heatsink including using a paintbrush or similar.

Seems this laptop has always run hot since the start. 90c+ in a 20c room is not uncommon. General not great cooling in these msi more budget laptops. 100c seems common.

2.9ghz all core is about what is to be expected for these usually they sit around 3ghz with all cores and threads going. Technically able to do 3.4gzh all core but that is rare.

sucks that you have to undervolt but yeah seems 100c is common for these at default. Then age doesnt help a ton

Unless you used like actual garbage paste the influence is extremely small to none. What did you use?

well its not me since i was in uni just finished my first year and I don't have my tools I was unable to honestly mess with the laptops inside so I went and gave to a shop I somewhat knew off and gave it to them so I'll probably do my own pasting and cleaning again after I am at home
