I have a relatively new system (Asus ProArt X670E-CREATOR WIFI, AMD 7950x3d, be quiet! 1200W PSU, 2x32GB Gskill DDR5-6000) with Samsung 990 Pro 4GB Nvme ssd as a second drive
Today I the drive disappeared when I was uploading files to Icloud. I cut and pasted folders from this drive into Icloud folder (also located on this same 4TB drive) and overnight while files were uploading something happened - in the morning I saw that drive wasn't visible in task manager, device manager etc. Restarting the PC dint help - drive wasn't showing up in BIOS.
I cleared the CMOS by jumping the pins on the motherboard and everything went back to normal.

I decided to continue the uploads and after a while the same happened again.
After first issue - I checked Samsung Magician and ran some diagnostics, benchmarks - everything seemed normal. The latest firmware for the drive was installed before the failure happened today.
Temperature of this drive was also within reason ( about 35C)

This happened before once - I don't remember exactly why - but clearing CMOS helped then.
Other then this - drive didn't show any issues. I use it fairly regulary - stream large movies via plex mostly.
Files exporting to icloud were various videos of different length (2gb to 80gb in size)

I have HWInfo running in the background - when drive failed "Drive Remaining Spare" was showing 0% in red, after the reload it is back to 100%
image.png.1a6a1d1a2bcdca4bbf2272d2a00e9598.png

Attached some other screenshots, could you let me know if there is a way to diagnose this further?
Or if this is indicative of a typical failure in the future? Can I do something about this?

The latest SSD firmware, I presume?

What does Hard Disk Sentinel say about the health of the drive?

I had my second m.2 drive disappear, it was the 3.3V voltage - the cable on the modular PSU wasn't sitting right on the PSU side and the 3.3V voltage had drops below 3V.

I've seen Asus AM4 systems having m.2 drives disappear, the ones which went through the chipset, when the CMOS batter dropped below 2.9V. The Bios didn't reset, no clock issues, just the second m.2 slot drives disappearing (when under load).

No issues in Sentinel
Magician shows firmware as latest version

Thanks - I will check my cables just in case

Around 39-44 degrees
Tried running CrystalDiskMark and manually moving some large (70gb) files to and from another drive
When the drive issue happened - I don't think I saw high usage or high temps

No problems in SMART.

I would check uefi if all main clocks are default, especially the PCIe one, and CPU one.

If not that, the psu, or cables ( extensions, custom cables ), or power socket are the next most probable cause.

Also, do check windows power profiles.

Hard disk -> turn off... -> 0

PCI Express -> link state power... -> off

That can help mitigate some problems, but not root cause.

Odd indeed. I have two of these drives. Definitely do mentioned stuff above, could be but doubt mobo may be the issue. Either way, make sure the drive is inserted properly just to be sure.
