Thinkpad p14s performance question

Go to solution Solved by OhYou_,

i had a p14s gen 2 with a T500, and i can highly recommend that you do not ever consider buying it.
the gpu is completely useless because Lenovo decided to write the firmware to throttle the cpu down to 400mhz if the gpu is used even in the slightest.
Some say it's to prevent the bottom of the laptop from reaching unsafe temperatures when used on a lap, but you cannot disable it, it wont turn off even when set to off.
like you will load up a game and play for ~30 seconds and then you are watching a slideshow because the cpu is at 400mhz.

hey yall, i currently use a k14 with a R5 5600u and am Radeon graphics, i do basic editing work for some business, such as reels and stuff, doesn't take much, and even if sometimes i have to push and edit full length videos with effects and tracking, it works good enough for me to just get the work done,

i have been looking to slightly upgrade and came across the p14s, with T500 Quadro graphics,

i wanted to know if it will be able to exceed my current machine, or will it be a downgrade, it does have more vram, but it is confusing to me because i read that the t500 just isn't as much powerful,

My most used editing tools are Davinci resolve for long form content that also requires color grading, Capcut for quick shorts and some light gaming, such as minecraft and some gta.

Yall please help me out with this, and if you guys can recommend smth better, i am open to it.

Ahh mann thats stupidly bad ://
well its good that i changed my mind to just getting the m4 mac mini,
as it will blow through everything i want to do, and all my workflow.
i can get a t14 or t14s for university stuff,
btw, is there a specific 13-14 inch laptop you recommend for uni?

i wouldn't rule out thinkpads still, just not that specific one. I would go with a cheap x1c if its for uni, something thin and light.
I travel with a x1c 6th, though I cant recommend something that old. its great for carry on weight and when you're living out of a backpack and a rail pass for weeks.

the x1 carbons are quite good, i was thinking about the thinkpad t14s, but the x1 carbons are more like better built right??
also i looked at the L13 thinkpad, its quite small and cute, so i was thinking of that one too. i am CS student, so i dont need to worry about any graphically intensive stuff, if smth does come up, the m4 mac mini can handle it.

The L series in the past 4 years has become their robust line i swear. I've pulled them apart for retrofitting wwan and they are insanely overbuilt compared to the T series. they also have more ports.
it's a solid option

oww, i actually didnt know they were this goodd, alright alright, i will definitely consider the L13's.
thank you soo much for the Guide 🙂
