Hi everyone

Recently my RTX 3080 just died out of nowhere. Not sure what happened but it won't post anymore and all my other components seem to be working. Unfortunately it is out of warranty.

I'm looking to get a replacement GPU but I'm not really sure what to get, given I've been out of the loop on cards since the 30 series. I play on 1440p ultrawide, and prefer to be on the highest settings for all games. Thinking my max budget would be approximately $1,200 AUD (~760 USD) for a worthwhile, long-term upgrade but obviously would prefer to spend less if there was a more sensible card that could cater for my needs for a couple years.

Happy to receive any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Right now is one of the worst times to buy a gup sadily so it isn't easy to get new high end cards right now. I would say trouble shoot whatever you can first. If you cant figure anything wrong then what I would do it buy a low end card such as a 2070 for around 100-200$ USD and then sell it when the shortage is over(I have a 7800x3d+2070 and it runs everything in 1440p ultra) If that doesn't work for you the next best thing is buying an overpriced 9070 for a little less than 700$ USD. Please tell me if this doesn't work or you want more possible ideas I'm happy to help.

Not sure what the market is like in Aus, but 9070, 9070 XT, 5070 and 5070 Ti are where I'd be looking. If you go much slower than this, you will end up with a downgrade. I believe HUB are based in Aus, so perhaps you can get better guidance on expected prices from their channel.

The VGA is lit up red, with no other lights lit up. I have a MSI B550 Gaming Edge motherboard. Interestingly, I've been able to get a very ancient GPU to post.

no 2nd PC to test it, or try 2nd slot? If youve tried either then yeah most likely it has just met its maker out of the blue.
