Hey there, semi-new builder here.

I'm putting together my next PC, and I would be grateful for some inputs on what cooling solution would be optimal.

I'm running a Ryzen 9 9900x, and an RTX 3080 TI (Got a GREAT price on it, hence the choice), in probably Fractal North or Fractal North XL.

Here are my questions:

1. I have a Noctua NH-U12S from my old system, would that be adequate?

2. I have looked towards going with a 360mm AIO, something like an Arctic Freeze III, would that be better than the Noctua NH-U12S? Or do you folks have other AIO recommendations?

3. Is the Fractal North XL a good case for airflow, or is there a case that would be better suited (I have not bought the case yet)

I would arrange my fans like this:

The PC will be in a room that can get a tad hot in the summer, due to it being exposed to the sun

Thanks for the help!!!

swap the front most aio fan to intake because right now the air from the top front intake fan is being immediately exhausted.

Is it possible to lower the two front intake fans any? That could also help.

Dreaming of the day when my brain cell doesn't betray me.

that would work as well, but you usually want the same or more intake fans than exhaust.

reusing hot air over and over? hmm

it has been used before by Zach's tech turf before, and it makes sense to not immediately exhaust the air coming in.

Its fine that its being exhausted, its going through the aio rad so cooling the cpu, imo having a top front exhaust fan is only an issue with tower coolers.

yes it would still be cooling the cpu, but right now the gpu only has one fan, he would only have 2 intake fans and 4 exhaust, and hot air would be mixing with the cold air from the front fans then going through the radiator.

Hot air will be mixing with cold air no matter what, with the top exhaust right next to the intake you are going to get some recirculation and imo thats worse. I agree the gpu would prefer another front fan, therefor i think a better setup would be the default north xl setup with 3 intake fans at the front and then 3 exhaust at the top, no need for a rear exhaust.

the idea is too flawed. its resuming the hot air over and over

since AIO radiators should never be exhaust. its easy to solve it another way 😛
