Hey all,

I'm sure there have been tons of threads about this so link them if you've got them!

I recently had to RMA my i9-14900k, and just got my new cpu. I am seeing spikes to 100c while idle which I also saw on my last cpu. I'm trying to never see the 100c but I am having a really hard time accomplishing that. I've even gone through the trouble of switching from a gigabyte aorus pro to an Asus z790-E because there are more references to how to play with Asus bios.

My system:

Bios:

Currently I have undervolted the CPU by 50 mV and have halved the current and power limits, and I am still seeing 100c spikes on two of my cores while idle. I am using the phase change sheet to make sure there is full contact to the cpu. I am waiting on my order of the full sheet from the lttstore before I try to reposition the cooler to check contact. I am also using a contact frame.  I tried turning off TVB but it did nothing for my thermals. When I originally ordered I had also bought a kf which I gifted to a friend, his has had 0 issues.

Is there a way I can completely disable the graphics portion of the chip? Like the kf? Do I risk stability for more of an undervolt? Do I scrap all those changes and just limit the multiplier?

Cooling:

Since I have a new CPU and motherboard I'm thinking my issue has to be my cooler. I have 9 fans, 6 intake at the front and 3 exhaust through the radiator at the top of the case, and passive exhaust out the back. I realize the fans do not have the best static pressure, but I have ordered 2 140mm fans which I will swap a set of three 120mm with. I will then put the 3 in push pull config on the radiator. I have also ordered an additional 120mm fan to be used as exhaust out the back of the case.

Should I just get the newest cooler? I really don't want to waste all these fans. I noticed corsair came out with a fan series with twice the static pressure of the ones I currently have. Should I purchase those? The price of them is comparable to buying a whole new cooler. 😕

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you install the latest microcode update?

and passive exhaust

🤔 Does that mean no fan all?? You definitely need an exhaust fan...

not necessarily, if its spiking at "idle" he could have something running in the back ground from windows make it spike.

Yeah, the 5000D doesn't come with an exhaust fan if the pics are correct?

100% agree, OP needs MUCH better cooling all around for a 14900K super heater.
