Sup ya'll,

While tyring to play The Last of Us II on my PC the other day I noticed my fans spinning full force. When cheking my temps I saw my GPU hitting about 100+ degrees celsius on it's hotspot (I was just in the main menu at this point)

My thinking was that my GPU would not survive very long going on like this. So I tried my hand at a repaste. Seeing in most videos that the worst that could happen is it wont work, or temps could get slightly worse...

Well, my PC won't currently post 馃檪
However, the diagnostic LED on my motherboard keep blinking between CPU and DRAM. Actually, it keeps on CPU for a couple of seconds... *BLINK* to DRAM for 1 second, going back to CPU. Rinse and repeat.
Here's a quick video of the issue:

While searching Google for this behavior, I came across a lot of post pointing to CPU and RAM issues. So I tried the following:

- Reseating the RAM (multiple times)
- Reseating the CPU (also checking all the pins)
- Reseating the GPU (multiple times)
- Resetting the CMOS
- Disconnecting all peripherals
- Trying one RAM stick at a time, in all 4 slots.
- Trying my old RAM (Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3000 C15)
- Checked all the connectors (all fans inside the system are spinning)

Is there something I'm missing here? Or did I just destroy my GPU? (fans do spin)
I don't have a spare GPU/CPU to test unfortunately.

My current build:
(The PC is of a 2018 vintage)

Motherboard: Gigabyte X470 AORUS ULTRA GAMING
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 64GB(2x32GB) 3200MHz
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 WINDFORCE 8G
PSU: Seasonic Focus Plus Gold 650W
CASE: NZXT H500
NVMe M.2: Samsung 970 EVO 500GB
SATA: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

If you did not replace the pads on the RAM and VRM MOSFETs then its likely you made things even worse.聽 The hot spot temperature is usually the MOSFETs which can potentially run fine up to 125C but a dried up pad will become practically useless once you've broken the seal by removing the heatsink.

Thanks for your reply.聽

I was, in parts, also going off of this video:聽

Where Jay rips open his 3070. Re-using his old, dried up pads. Which only caused his temps to rise by a couple of degrees.聽

Whereas my system won't even boot.聽

I understand my temps might get worse by not replacing the pads. However, it would only ever get up to those temps under load. Not while Idleing, browsing or whatever.聽聽

My pads where not as dried up as his. They were still soft and malleable actually. It was just the paste on the die that was dried up.聽

It's a motherboard issue. 聽

I ended up taking the system to a shop in town.聽

They put in their own parts. Which gave the same issue. 聽They put my parts in their own test motherboard, which worked flawlessly.聽

Still very curious how this happened by just taking the GPU out and putting it back in.聽

Yeah.....聽 certainly weird....but you always gotta be careful working with a PC,some smds on the motherboard can be easily knocked out for example...聽
