You both do know OP wants to use blender and do game developement which immediately puts AMD way below cause Nvidias cuda cores and AI capabilities are what make both of these programs work good?
ie if it was just gaming the 9070xt WOULD be good but since this

This 5070 ti 16gb is slightly over budget but would suit your need way better OP

Otherwise Newegg has some refurbished and open box 4070 Ti Super cards for about 1000$ which are ever so slightly slower but will again suit your needs better

You can with a 9070xt but for your work they are considerably weaker

Budget (including currency): $1000 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 3D Modeling (Blender), Substance Painter (photo-realistic texturing, if that matters), Unreal Engine 5, gaming in down time.

Other details:

Hey guys. As the title suggests, I have $1000 USD to spend on upgrading my rig to be better for my work. I am a full time 3D Modeler (to include texturing them) and my current system is...managing but not nearly as snappy as I'd prefer. Here's what I have currently:

Spoiler

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x

RAM: 32gb (2x16) Corsair Vengeance 3600MT/s

GPU: ZOTAC Twin Edge RTX 4060 8gb

PSU: SeaSonic 1000w Gold (can't remember exact model)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 970 EVO M.2 & 1tb Samsung 870 EVO SSD

Peripherals:

Monitors: LG 24GN50W 144hz 1080p & Samsung C24F390 60hz 1080p

KB: Corsair RGB Rapidfire K70

Mouse: Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed

Sound: Logitech Z506 Surround

My aim: I'd love to do my work in Blender and Pt without my VRAM causing hitches. UE5 is especially VRAM greedy once you set the in engine scalability up towards max, so VRAM increase in this upgrade is paramount.

I've been team green since 900 series and was debating going 5070 class, but I've also been eyeing AMD's 9070XT. While I game in my personal time, it would be nice to crank details and still potentially max out my main 144hz display. I know both aforementioned cards are not "1080p cards", but I have no interest going above that resolution, unless there is a tangible visual difference in my day to day work. I would prefer to focus my upgrade to the GPU as I believe it is the limiting factor here (I use GPU exclusively for my software suite where applicable), but I am open to considering a platform change if I'm incorrect regarding the VRAM issue.

Final considerations: I can go slightly above my allocated budget, but my absolute limit is $1200 USD. I cannot sell my current parts to offset cost because whatever I end up replacing will get put into another machine in the house.

yes the 9070 xt may be lacking when it comes to coda cores ai, but vram is also important when it comes to unreal engine. so yes if he can get a 5070 ti or 4070 ti super in his price range then he should get them over the 9070 xt, but with the 5070 I don't think it would be worth it in the long run.

Specifically why I suggested and linked the Tis

They are either ever so sligthly over by less than 50$ or the 4070 Ti supers are just open box units or refurbished

Also the issue with the 9070xt is that it doesnt really matter that it has more Vram is a 4070 or 3080 (3080 is debatable and depends on source) will outperform it

Worst time to buy GPUs right now, they're all severely overpriced.

For instance 5090 can be for 1300-1500$ extra, above it's supposed price. (60%-75%+ markup price for 5090)

The 9070 XT is supposed to cost 600-650$ but not even day ago the cheapest I could find wouldn't be below 900$

The 5070 Ti should cost 750-800$.

9070 XT costs 850$ and 5070 Ti costs 970$ right now. Both of which are out of stock, so they cost even more than that.

  • The only time it is good to buy GPU, is when you're hunting for discounts or the lower priced models to get re-stocked so you can get these, however other people, some of them are probably doing the same thing..
