I am 18 years old and have been using a desktop pc for about six years. It has an i7-13700k, 4070 super, 64 gigs of ddr4, and 6 tb of storage, however it is pretty big and going to college it will be hard to lug around. I am looking into buying a laptop so I have something to take notes with in class, code on, and 3d model on, as well as some medium intensity gaming. I plan on bringing my peripherals with me so screen size really doesn’t matter that much, and I just need something portable with power. My only concern is that it becomes obsolete here in a couple years and I have to buy something else because I can’t upgrade it. I was looking at framework, it ticks all the boxes but its also expensive.

is your motherboard its m-atx or atx? it could be possible to put your pc into a smaller case.

Its an ATX board however I still need something portable.

this just an idea, you could get a micro atx? its motherboard and a smaller case and psu to keep your current pc for gaming and 3d work, and buy a cheaper laptop that will work for classwork.

True, I could. What laptops would work well?

I would prefer to have one device.

I know it can be an inconvenience to have two devises, but a laptop with a 4070 super in it is $1500+ and through in the fact that laptop gpus aren't as powerful as their desktop counterparts and you can only really upgrade ram and storage in them now. If you do decide to have two devices here's a laptop that would work well. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-ideapad-1i-15-6-fhd-touchscreen-laptop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-with-512gb-ssd-storage-abyss-blue/6588661.p?skuId=6588661

If you're looking for a desktop replacement I'd consider the Zephyrus G14 or G16. They're pretty solid laptops and most importantly they have decent overall battery life outside of gaming. With 50-60% brightness with office use and browsing you're looking at around 8 hours battery life. As for obsoleteness I can't really speak on it, it's heavily dependent on use case and standards. I still use a 6-7 year old thinkpad L380 with a fairly weak i5 8250U for office tasks and programming without much problems. But it is fair to say that 3-4 years down the line you might want to consider an upgrade if you're set on playing all the latest AAA titles.

You're going to have to weigh the benefit of taking the desktop (and it's stealability) against a laptop. An equivalent laptop is going to cost $2000 more than the desktop and you probably will regret it if it gets damaged.

The primary suggestion for "I'm going to school" is to get a laptop that you won't weep over if someone steps on it, and bring that to class instead. Then make sure your desktop is cable-locked (with a key not a combo) to something immobile so that other people who you might be living with/visitors don't decide to run off with it.

And no Zephyrus laptops are not solid. They have terrible cooling systems and are loud. Any "high end laptop" in an ultrabook form factor will be. They all universally suck and I would suggest people just buy a Macbook Air if they need something capable that they need to bring to class, and leave their PC at home. The key problem, most of the time is people want a laptop that does everything, but no such thing exists, and hasn't existed since the 3rd gen Intel systems. Ultrabooks require a USB-C dock to restore a lot of the lost functionality that those older laptops had. And to get to 4060/4070 equivalent you have to tow around a 120w or 180w power brick, not run it off USB-C.

The more powerful the laptop is, the shorter the battery life is. That's why I'd suggest the Macbook Air if that is something you need for class. If you want to game on it, you can, but it's going to be terrible, as ANY laptop will be.  But at least the Macbook Air won't be the one sounding like a jet engine in class every time a web page is viewed.
