Hey, I haven't really been keeping up with AMD Mantle that much and I was wondering if they have released it yet, because I have been going on the website and can't find anything about the release date. I have found the beta driver for AMD Catalyst 14.6, but I'm not sure if that has got the AMD Mantle in it? And will AMD Mantle work with a intel i5 4670K with a AMD R9 280x? Or do both the CPU and GPU need to be AMD based?

My PC Specs:          CPU: i5 4690k(stock speed of 3.50GHz)          GPU: MSI GTX 770 4GB          Storage: WD Blue 1TB HDD and 120GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD             Ram: 8GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 1600MHz           Motherboard: Z97 Asus Maximus VII Ranger          PSU: Corsair RM650 650W          CPU Cooler: Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO                    Case: Fractal Design R4 Black Pearl with window         OS: Windows 10 Pro

Mantle works on any CPU it is soley based on your GPU (unless you are using an APU graphics)

however it is dependant on the game developer implementing it into the game engine, so there are only about 4 games that is it, Battlefield 4, Theif, Star Citizen, Plants Vs Zombies Garden Warfare,  Sniper Elite 3, and some other upcoming games (battlefront 3 mirrors edge 2 etc)

As previously mentioned the onyl requirement for running Mantle is to have a GPU that supports Mantle. But from the looks of things Mantle seems to alleviate CPU bottlenecks and doesn't actually increase GPU performance all that much. Although is varies very much on the application and the benchmark Starswarm for example gets almost a doubling in frame rate while BF4 and Thief you mainly see the benefits if you have a slower CPU.

Only certain games support mantle. Developers have to specifically program the game to support it which is an API like DirectX.

Here's a list I found (it's a little out of date). I know Civilization: Beyond Earth will support it too.

Released
  • Battlefield 4 – (Developed by DICE/Frostbite Team)
  • Thief – (Developed by Eidos), no Mantle yet
  • Need for Speed Rivals — (Developed by Ghost Games), no Mantle yet
Unreleased
  • Star Citizen – (Developed by Cloud Imperium Games, Behaviour Interactive)
  • Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare –(Developed by PopCap Games)
  • Sniper Elite 3 – (Developed by Rebellion)
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition – (Developed by BioWare/Frostbite Team)
  • Havana (codename) – (Developed by Visceral Games/Frostbite Team)
  • Mars (codename) – (Developed by Mohawk Games/Oxide Games)
  • Mass Effect (untitled) – (Developed by BioWare/Frostbite Team)
  • Mirror’s Edge 2 – (Developed by DICE/Frostbite Team)
  • Star Control  – (Developed by Stardock/Oxide Games)
  • Star Wars: Battlefront — (Developed by DICE/Frostbite Team)
  • Unannounced title — (Developed by Oxide Games)

Mantle is pretty meh imo. It benefits best from AMD's CPUs, but it will also work with Intel CPUs. It's only useful if your CPU is on the weak side. i3 or lower. Those using the AMD APUs have the most to gain from Mantle. I don't bother enabling Mantle anymore because the performance gains on my rig are barely tangible.

so for me it wont also be very beneficial, becase ill have a 4670k with a R9 280X? :(

You already have a fast CPU, so no, it won't really benefit you. Like already mentioned, it's for people with slower CPU's.

Here's a good article to read: http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/175676-amds-mantle-finally-emerges-turns-out-its-actually-for-boosting-low-end-cpus-not-gpus

how would you get performance gains from using an APU am I missing something?

Mantle benefits slower CPU's and APU's are considered slow compared to other chips from AMD or Intel.

APU = CPU + GPU in one package

Mantle puts CPU load on a dedicated stronger GPU, APU doesn't have a dedicated graphics card.

The IGP in an APU is still a GPU. You don't need a "discreet" GPU if that's what you meant.

Benchmarks show small improvements, but nevertheless they're still improvements.

oh cool didn't know APU's worked with mantle.
