Hey everyone,

I have not used a forum since maybe 2009, quite a throwback.

I recently upgraded my old PC from (important parts listed only) an i7-6700k and an EVGA GTX 1070 FTW:

to an AMD 9950x (the x3d wasn't out yet RIP); (GPU info below, this is the topic of the post).

RAM is irrelevant, 2 sticks 64gb, reasonable mega-transfers.

PSU is irrelevant, I can swap it as needed, but it is currently an EVGA SuperNOVA P3 220-P3-1000-X1 1000 W.

This was right during the RTX 50 series launch, which, I thought, would come with:
A) Stock.
B) More VRAM.

C) Not the 12VHPWR connector.

Obviously, this was not the case, and I threw a RTX 4060 in it.

Surprisingly, this 4060 benchmarked out at #5 for performance of all tested 4060's, pretty nifty! But, it is still a 4060.

Now, I am at a dilemma. I want to get a better GPU running in this machine.

I plan on (priority runs 1>5, 1 : most important, 5 least):
1) Gaming, maxed out at 1440p.

2) Gaming in games that have absolute vomit-worthy garbage optimization and require raw performance.

3) Running occasional hobbyist AI generated content.

4) Running occasional video editing and rendering.

5) Running some D-programming language custom scripts for data-mining.

GPUs are starting to become available... I surprisingly have a Gigabyte Aorus RTX 5080 locked in my shopping cart right now, but...

Only 16GB VRAM? On an 80 model 50 series? Ridiculous. Atrocious. Disappointing. What am I to do?

I could swap sides and try to land an AMD RX 9700XT, or get a previous 7900XTX for raw performance, or with FSR in games where applicable; or I could try to come across a rare and overly scalped RTX 5090.

I could wait for 12 months for a RTX 5080ti? I guess? All the meanwhile tug-boating along a 4060 or 1070 equivalent...

What would you do?

Thank you!

I've seen people mention that they'd love to get the 9070 XT but can't due to some AI toolstacks just flat out not working on it, so they end up going team green

How true those statements are.. I can't verify so take it with a grain of salt, but it might be worth looking into
