Well we had an incident just yesterday where we nearly maxed out 16GB of ram running something like 12 Eve online clients, so perhaps 8GB sticks would be more suited.

Well, that seems like extreme gaming or game hosting which isn't what the average bear is going to do.

dude he is getting the 900d cheap so their was no need to change that. MSi MB no no no . i choose the hero cause it has enough features at a nice price .also 290x's generate LOTS of heat compared to the GTX 780 , also 2 SSD's in raid 0 are going to be better for him/her. and he needs 4TB of space so get 2 Tb black/ blue or even 4Tb black/blue. Also why the Kraken compared to the h220 or the NH-D14 ?

like i told you a million of times ROGs over priced the mpower has all the same features and costs less your the only person out here that i have meet thats had bad issues with them

as for the 290xs they have a bloody after market cooler on them its fine and if he can put up with the temps mower power to him

he can always get more drives for raid whatever

1) case that's cool

2) MSi MB between me and my friend we had to RMA 2 MB 6 times for the same issue to do with the firmware. and they gave us upgraded boards and new boards of the same type always had the same issue . the reason i am now on ASUS never had a problem with asus so will never go back.

3) no way those things are furnaces honestly this comes down to the fight between the red and green teams. gtx 780 has it's perks and so do the 290's . 780 will be better if he is SLI compared to crossfire in also most games.

4) unless he wants to expand a little in the future maybe but i will take your word for it .

the 290s are still better at 1440p+ because of the 4gb ram

You two know each other or something lol?

Everyone's got there different opinion on parts etc. i personally don't agree with the R9 290X's and will definitely be going with x2 780's and that's based on price vs performance

The 290x only performers slightly better and costs around £100 more.

ROG stuff is over priced i will admit.

I do appreciate all the comments though and the things i will be taking away from here are to look at the SSD/RAID setup. the Ram and of course the PSU

1) aha no but i beleive this is not the first time me and him have has this debate aha

2) your welcome Radi with the 840's is a great thing to do done it my self great performance from it . i didn't know much about the PSu with out doing some deeper research so :3

Its interesting what people where saying about the SSD RAID configuration and it being faster then a PCIe SSD, personally i don't know much about RAID and how it effects operating speed but iam intrigued by it now.

at the moment pci e ssd's are new tech and still in research. Raid will not be faster but it will be more reliable and one of your aci slots will not be taken up in the process. you should do some research your self into it see what you think . better price to performance with raid ssds :) check linuses videos out on raid on tech quickie as well

I knew someone would do that Hidden Orange!!!!!!!

I know about the purpose of RAID, however i dont know how that speeds up my system!. clearly i will have to go back and watch those vids again

PS: i have all of those vids downloaded :P

Quad channel is faster than dual channel, but I don't know by how fast and it might be not that noticeable. Single channel to dual channel, though, are noticeable when doing video editing, rendering, graphics design, and such. For gaming, it's not going to be much and 16GB of RAM for gaming isn't that necessary anyway. So yes, it's faster, but with 2X8GB, you'll have extra slots for another 2X8GB so you can have a total of 32GB in the future.

While quad channel is faster than dual channel, it is currently only available to enthusiasts on LGA2011 motherboards. LGA1150 motherboards only support dual channel.

RAID 0 speeds up access because it provides two paths to the data which means that access can be overlapped. The other RAID configurations are intended to provide for fault tolerance. Some of them also provide some performance improvements.

With respect to SSD, RAID 0 does not provide any real world performance benefits (it can in fact reduce performance) except in very particular applications. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-13.html

I was thinking about a RAID 10 setup btw.

Do you really require fault tolerance? It does not eliminate the need for good backups.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
