Hello all,

Let’s start from the beginning. I have an HP Omen 30L. Over the last 6 months or so my PC started crashing more and more frequently. First it was only playing certain games and crashing maybe once over a weekend. Now if I try to play any demanding game it crashes within like 15 min. Even less demanding games like Tabletop Simulator will only last an hour or two before I crash. What do I mean by cash? Well the screens go completely black, but the audio still works. I was actually using Discord last night and could still hear people talking. So it’s not a complete crash. It’s clearly something to do with video, right? Also, and this is a little anecdotal, most of the crashes seem to occur when I take an action in a game. For example, if I’m just panning around I’m fine but then I go to interact with an interface, the moment I interact there is a stutter and the displays go black. Think any kind of action that would normally cause a game to stutter or lag briefly. These are the types of interactions that seem to crash it mostly. I have to force shut down by holding the power button as the display will not return.

I’ve viewed event log in windows and every time at the exact time of the crash there is one error. According to the event log, there is an error with the PCI Controller. After some research I found that this is usually an issue with the PCI controller itself (which would mean the motherboard, right?) but also it can sometimes be a PCI device. Ok great so motherboard or GPU issue. I mean I guess it could also be a power supply issue, but I feel like it wouldn’t be the same error every time if that was the case. Maybe I’m wrong.

So thinking the motherboard is the issue I bought a new ASUS H510. I get everything hooked up, but when I but when I boot the displays are just completely black. Not black like a display is black when it is still backlit, black like the displays are in sleep/off.  I have no idea what is wrong. All the components were just working with the other motherboard. I’ve even tried hooking HDMI up directly to the motherboard, but still no display. I hooked everything back up to the old motherboard and everything is working fine (except the crashing obviously). I switched back to the H510 and the same problem, no display. I feel like it’s pretty unlikely that the new motherboard is faulty although I have ordered a new one just in case. The HP Omen 30L does have more peripheral power connections than the 510 can support, but it seems like these are all different fans and lights. All the critical power connections are hooked up (I think). The main motherboard connection, the 12v x8 pin, the gpu connections, the cpu pump (its water cooled), and obviously the power switch. What could be going wrong?
