I thought about that, can’t cause the 4090s water inlets go too far in terms of width - extends over both bays

in the pic u can see the issue easier

Hey peeps, need some ideas on how to shove a arorus(spelling) 4x4 NVMe pci card into my crosshair viii hero.  Yes it has 4 1tb Kingston furies in it. Might be rampages?  Idk whatever.

my Mobo supports bitrification (spelling) on pci1/2 but not 3.

i have a 4090 and a 6700xt both with waterblocks so their significantly smaller versus the stock heatsinks. I also have a quadro 4000 at my disposal. The 4090 is wide so it either needs to stay where it is or be mounted vertically utilizing the bottom pci slot.

trouble is the 6700’s water inlets extend *just* barely enough to install the vertical adapter thingy. So if I go that route, gonna have to take a hacksaw or grinder to it and trim a little off - not a big deal since i have 2 of them (one from my daughters chassis which is the same as mine)

Or I could just mount the 4090 vertically without the metal adapter thing. Since there’s a waterblock on the card it’s significantly smaller and lighter. But I wouldn’t be able to screw the riser cable to the non-existent mounting bracket.

now your prob wondering, why not just remove the 6700 then?  Well… it looks bad ass and I use it for 2 other displays, the 4090 is my g9 and also DP to an Ethernet balun to my living room tv. I want my office to have the best quality/experience so naturally 3 monitors are all DP. My 4090 has 3 DisplayPorts and 1 hdmi. Suppose I could use an hdmi on my living room output but, why?  Esp since I have all these GPU’s. It’s currently connected with a one way DP to HDMI cable

i COULD use my quadro for the other 2 monitors. Issue there is the nvidia overlay, for whatever reason, displays the gpu info for the quadro rather than the 4090. No I haven’t tried other software for the overlay, honestly I don’t know what I’d use - if anybody has a suggestion with overlay software please let me know

I’m considering this config…

pci1 - 6700

pci2 - NVMe pci card

pci3 - riser cable then vertically mounted 4090

all I’d have to do is cut the mount thingy.

pci1 would be 8x

pci2, somehow, would be 16x but 4x4x4x4x due to bitrification support

pci3, according to the manual, is 8x/gen4 to my surprise with 3 cards in it with my 5950x. Mounting the 6700 vertically isn’t an option cause the water inlets on the 4090 extend past the 2 vertical bays

lastly since I have the hdmi balun (it has usb also) to my tv, when I use it I need to hit win+k to disable all the other monitors except for the tv. It’s (obviously) a custom loop with soft tubing not that rigid stuff. Reconfiguring my water lines would be very easy

any suggestions on how to configure my hardware? if I’m gonna do all this it’s gonna be a pain in the ass, so doing it proper the first time is the goal.

oh while your here, is there a way to have a different profile for when I use my living room tv?  The 4090 hits FPS way over 120hz so I gotta configure nvidia CP to cap the frame rate among other settings to eliminate screen tearing. Frame tearing?  Whatever, the TV is crying

thanks everyone!  Sorry for the long post, pictures would be easier but I’d have to pull everything outta the pc, nope!

happy pi day!!

I think vertically mounting the 4090 is you best bet.

sure thing.  plz excuse the mess, obviously its a construction zone so yeah.  not to mention my water lines all crazy, thatll get fixed up too since ill have to drain the loop anyways after taking out the psu's and replacing it with the 1500w as shown

first one is the 4000 and nvme card, as stated just one bay.  length isnt a concern

second is a "full view" of the inside, i took out the quadro yesterday in preperation for this

third is a view of the 4090's water inlets and the vertical um, slots.  as u can see they overlap

the 4th is my best attempt at a closeup showing how little space i have between the pci slot, headers, then psu

safe to say i been contemplating this issue for quite some time which is why everythings a mess

im working on cutting down the vertical mounting thing.  might as well use it if i can cause it has mounts for the riser. itll provide additional support laterally.  given the 4090 is so expensive id rather it didnt fall for whatever reason.  that'll be my luck...

so 6700 on top, nvme middle, 4090 bottom w riser mounted vertically.  i think thats realistically my only option unless i use the quadro for my 2 top monitors rather than the 6700

given slot 1 and slot 3 will both be 8x @ 4.0 anyways there shouldnt be any performance\fps loss.  well maybe since its on the south bridge, could always mitigate that by overclocking the infinity fabric or SoC, idk wtf its called but thru all my OC'ing research i found settings that allow me to do so.  plus with all i have read in the past 16x (just one gpu) wont provide me with additional performance.  well, a little, difference is negligible.  heck if i could somehow make the 6700 or quadro run at idk 2x or something and boost the top slot to 16x i would do so.  isnt like the extra monitors need to do anything other than productivity.  firefox windows, taskman, hwinfo, junk like that.  zero rendering overall

is that even possible?

yeah most deff.  if im gonna do it, might as well do it right.  i mean look at this mess, its only like that cause of "this" conundrum.
keep following the thread, ill post a pic when im done.  taking a look at the amount of work ill need to do to make it clean, itll prob take at least 8hrs of work or more

does anyone know if theres a way to slow down pci lanes per slot to increase pci speed on the primary slot?  cause heck if i can bump my 4090 to 16x ill put the nvme thing back in my server in the basement and use the 4090 alone.  that is if i cant do 4x4x4x4x on pci 1 or 2 depending on where i stick the 4090\nvme thing.
only want that sucker up here cause im running outta storage space.  plus this card is on raid 0 - yeah it has an integrated raid controller!  and yes i verified, i do have "kingston fury rampage" 1tb nvme's.  just no heatsink like kingstons site displays.  im not worried about heat since i put thermal pads (yes the correct size) over all 4 which make contact with the enclosure therefore acting as a heatsink along with the fan.  i remember shopping for these and at the time they were the fastest read\write drives on the market.  costed double back then.

i could be wrong but if i recall correctly when i would RDP to my server and transfer stuff from my 8x SAS raid 5 (HDDs) config to the nvme, holy cow.  im pretty sure windows explorer showed like 80-100gbps.  id transfer entire directories of movies n unpacked games so a wide variety of file sizes.  anywhere from 100gb to small .nfo files.

heres the spec sheet from <a href="https://www.kingston.com/en/ssd/gaming/kingston-fury-renegade-nvme-m2-ssd">here</a>

lol, so much for html code.  whatever~~~

hackin away at bare metal (kali linux pun)

did the math on the spec sheet, seems its ~30gb\per second if all 4 are reading at 7,300mbps each.  i cant imagine thats sustained though, eh whatever.

if it is, on raid 0 im read\write at ~30gbps\15.6gbps.  wow, primary gaming drive then!
