7970 CF with 280x

They're the same card, so no. You shouldn't have any issues. This is also why the 280x doesn't support Trueaudio--it's still a Tahiti core.

It's not that they're similar cards, THEY ARE LITERALLY THE SAME CARD. I didn't discover it until about 2 weeks ago, but really AMD just released the r9 290 and 290x because everything below that is just a relabel. It's kind of awesome that 7970 is still kickin' ass when it came out before the 600 series though.
