Slow RAM, older platform.

yeah but if they sink everything into a platform upgrade they'll end up with a sorta mid tier build again and it might not be worth it if they do not plan to upgrade the future machine.

i guess the important question is , do they want to upgrade the machine again or not? if they don't want to then you don't want to make something that has room for expansion as they will never use it vs maxing out what they have which might still edge out a newer build despite the ram being not as fast.

Generally, I stagger upgrades.  Do the GPU then 2 years later do the CPU.  Certain events (like the 5090 not being a worthwhile upgrade) extend things out a bit.  There isn't really anything I need at the moment outside of feeling space constrained after swapping the 7.68TB drive for a 4TB one.  Trying to deal with not keeping everything installed lol as I have 1.5Gbit downloads with no caps (plus media is on a 40+TB synology).

Sorry, added to original message.

That second build I posted will have you killing bad guys quicker than Edward IV was slaying those Red Rose b@stards at the Battle of Towton. Both of those builds are meant for gaming at 1080P.

btw if you enjoy Battlefield then here's a game I think you'll like and it's free.

well , you'd have to buy a power supply cpu and gpu

or you can just build a whole new pc as suggested above

Is there really a upgrade path without changing the Motherboard as well?  On a budget I would just drop everything on the GPU/PSU and wait 1-2 years to do CPU/MB/RAM.  May actually be something that can be purchased after selling the old parts TBH even if it is just a used AM4 and 5800x3d.

yeah the system should be able to handle a powersupply and gpu upgrade which can be moved to a newer machine later.

Ah, I thought I would just have to upgrade the CPU and GPU but reading the above I might as well just build a new setup not just try to upgrade one or two parts.

Theres not much in the way of low wattage good gpus currently so yeah you'd want a decent powersupply

You want DDR5-6000 CL30 if you go the DDR5 route.
