I'm looking at building a new NAS mainly just for storage and was after some case recommendations. I'm planning on having up to 8 3.5 HDD's eventually and a micro-atx motherboard. Ideally the case will be as small as possible because I don't have a lot of room to have another full sized mid tower case in my room. I was originally thinking about the SilverStone CS382 but it is quite expensive and i've seen people say that it can have thermal problems and the first thing you have to do is replace the stock fans. I don't need hot swap bays because i'm planning on basically setting it up and forgetting about it until something goes wrong.

It's an older case sir, but it still checks out.

I've had my NAS in one for about 8 years now. It's a little tight inside, but otherwise it's solid. I made some custom PCBs as power/data backplanes for the drives in back.

I was looking at the one but I can't really find it available anywhere until like a 3 month wait. If it is the better option then I will probably just have to wait for it then

  • 1 month later...

The Jonsbo N3 is a good option if you can live with a 2 PCIe slot mATX motherboard instead of a 4 slot mATX motherboard:

I've got an HBA and a graphics card installed in mine, and I've added 2 5.25" bays to supplement the existing 8 3.5" bays down below.
