Hello everybody I currently have a 2080 and looking to upgrade my monitor and gpu to 1440p then right around the 165hz range. At my Walmart there is a 4070 super for 600 that I have been eying or should I look for a different card. I have 5800x as my cpu so I’m not worried about a cpu bottleneck. I don’t like using ray tracing so I don’t have to worry about that. Should I go with an amd gpu or a different nvidea one.

I think RX 7900 XT would be a tad better in the future - 20GB of VRAM versus 12GB of VRAM on RTX 4070 Super.

Both would be good at 1440p, not to mention 1080p.

If I use dlss should I stay with the 4070 or just use fsr with the amd

I’m currently using a 1080p 240hz monitor if that’s a question at all

With a 5800X you should worry about the CPU bottleneck. If it were a 5800X3D, then you wouldn't have to.

A 5800X is going to bottleneck a 4070 Super a bit on 1440p, if you were to sidegrade to a 5700X3D you'd solve that.

A 4070S with its 12GB of VRAM is more of a 1080p to 1080p UW card. Some modern games can use more than 12GB on 1440p.

If an RX 7900 GRE is available, get that, and the 5700X3D. If not, get a 7800XT or wait for the 9070XT.

FSR is not terrible.

Also I almost forgot - in March the RX 9070 XT cards will be out and probably faster and cheaper than 7900 XT. If you have a month to wait it'll probably be worth the wait.

If you can, that's a decent option.

Keep in mind, the 5700X3D performs comparable to a Ryzen 7600X to 7700 and you wouldn't need to replace your motherboard and RAM.

Why is the x3d so much better? I never really looked into it.

I just found a pc on marketplace with a 13900k and a 4080 with a 1440p monitor and all the rest of the peripherals for a pretty good deal I think I might just sell my gear and buy that

What's a bottleneck for 5800x + 4070 Super?

1% lows and high fps? maybe.

does 5800x prevent from running thing slike higher graphics compared to RTX 2080? no.

it's the cache, but it isn't much better, just considerably, in games where cache matters more
