Budget (including currency): £400-£500 (uk pound)

Country: UK

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I want to use it to mainly run story games such as Yakuza, FF7 remake/rebirth and RE.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I currently have a Gigabyte h310m s2h motherboard, Intel Core i3-8100 CPU @3.60GHz 4 cores processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB GPU, 16GB RAM.

Im trying to focus on upgrading the pc to be able to play any of the games stated on medium-high as currently my setup wont even play them on low unless its at 30fps which isnt really appealing. Im looking for Processors and GPU's that i should just be able to upgrade directly without the rest of the system as i dont need anything top range just enough to play most games on medium-high graphics, im not too sure on the compatibility hence why im asking but i like the look of the geforce rtx 3050 or 4060 and the intel i5-12400F, not sure if they would work in my system so looking for info if they would run or if there is anything beter/whats a good upgrade i can do.

Thanks alot,

Ash 🙂

A 12400f and a 4060 would be an incredible jump in performance.

You should be able to reuse the RAM but you would need a new motherboard.

You do not mention your power supply though, this is very important.  Let us know what PSU you have.

There are definitely cheaper motherboards out there but they are so barebones and they lack features.

By the looks of it, that'll be:

- a new cpu

- a new gpu

- a new mobo

- (possibly  a new ssd/psu)

The 12400f is at a pretty good price and b660 boards are relatively inexpensive. I might also recommend the rx 7700xt but if you're an nvidia guy then the 4060 is also pretty great too. In either case, you should be able to clear these specifications (which should really be your baseline anyways.):PC spec sheet for FINAL FANTASY VII Rebirth.

Thanks for the reply!

I currently have an AeroCool Integrator 500W 80 plus PSU in my system.

What PSU would you recommend as i dont mind going over budget a little bit?

Would there be any problems changing from a NVIDIA graphics card to the AMD one?

Nothing comes to mind. Although like @Hinjima said, the PSU is very important. 500 *could maybe* get you by but Nvidia recommends at least 550W for the 4060 and similarly, amd recommends 700W for the card I mentioned.

So yeah, i think a 750W PSU like the ones corsair has would be pretty ok. But just review the budget and review your priorities. Remember that you don't need everything all at once and you can take your time.

Ive looked and I can get the 4060, i5-12400F and B760-P for about 500, im going to take the storage and ram from my old system as i can upgrade that at a later time.

For CPU cooler can i take the one off my old CPU or should i get a new one as they are quite cheap?

And for the PSU does the Rating matter (bronze/silver/gold) as im not sure what that means. I found a 750W corsair one for £100 which should be enough for the system.

Yeah, ill probably buy the parts over 2-3 months that way its not so expensive in the long run and even though it'll be a bit over budget atleast it'll be a decent setup hopefully.

Thanks!

I'm not too sure if the old cooler will support the new socket (you should probably look that up) but the i5 should come with it's own cooler which should be alright till you replace it with something else (i've seen good things about the peerless assassin)

Yeah, typically gold > silver > bronze but really as long as you don't go for some off-brand, off-brand PSU, it should be alright. Corsair's one's are pretty alright.
