Help debugging an error on Ubuntu

Go to solution Solved by Ralphred,

It's probably a power issue, the PSU's for the pi4 are only ~15 watts. Use a USB hub to power one (or both) of the HDD's (preferably the spinny disk).

I have installed Ubuntu 24.10 on a raspberry pi 4.

The install is mostly default settings, I have all commands written so I can quickly replicate the install if needed.

I also have 2 usb hard drives connected, one ssd and a mechanical drive. Sometimes for unknown reasons it disconnects both drives, they go missing and I have to reboot.

In the log I can see this:

2025-01-12T14:30:09.211066+00:00 raspberrypi systemd[1]: Starting sysstat-collect.service - system activity accounting tool...

Can someone help me make sense of this? Is this a physical error in the hard drive?

You were absolutely right... I never remembered about that. Changed the mechanical hard drive with a newer, bigger one, removed the ssd (so now I only have one hard drive connected) and it works perfectly.

I know the best would be to use a single SSD, but for the size I need it was too expensive. And it still works this way.
