"I'm excited to share an idea I've been developing: a mobile app that connects those in need of blood, organs, and tissues with willing donors.

This app aims to:

Streamline the donation process: Making it easier for individuals to register as donors and for recipients to find compatible matches.

Reduce wait times: Connecting patients with urgently needed resources more quickly.

Increase awareness: Raise awareness about the critical importance of organ, tissue, and blood donation. Optional additions:

Highlight a specific pain point: "I've witnessed firsthand the challenges of finding suitable donors, and I believe technology can play a crucial role in improving this process."

Mention specific features: "The app could include features like real-time alerts, personalized matching, and educational resources."

Include a call to action: "If you're interested in joining this project, please reach out to me in the comments or via direct message."

That's a terrible idea for so many reasons. The big one is that you don't want to store medical data about anyone. Trust me, you just don't. Look at the 23andMe data leak for why it's a bad idea.

Second, how exactly do you envision for this process to work exactly? People who donate blood already do so and they know how to get in touch with donation drives or hospitals where you can donate. Organ donors already make sure they carry information about their intent to donate and some countries have even flipped it around and made organ donation opt-out instead of opt-in. Which also further highlights that in order to donate blood and organs, you don't need to register anywhere to begin with. You just either go to donate blood in person where it gets stored until it needs to be used, or you carry an organ donor card or set up the emergency information stuff that is built into most phones by default these days and state that you're an organ donor there.

This app idea would also do nothing about finding suitable donors more quickly, because that's not something an end user can evaluate, it's something medical professionals will still need to verify. If I die randomly and someone needs a heart transplant, they still need to make sure my heart is even compatible with their physiology. And that's still true if I'm still alive and decide to donate a kidney or other redundant organ.

Also, and not to put too fine a point on this: This sounds like a classic tech bro disruptive idea. You know, look at something that seems inefficient from the outside and has so many "obvious" ways to be improved that you just fire from the hip and create something that doesn't follow regulations and doesn't actually meet the needs of those whose problems you intend to solve. It becomes a data kraken, vulnerable to attack and if you ever sell your company to some venture capitalist pigs, you can be damn sure they'll put up paywalls and subscriptions to be fast-tracked on the waitlist.

Depending on the country this would pose so many issues legally and more. I would recommend to rethink this sort of app and make it more simply informational on how to get these sort of services and to connect into proper registered services to see information. Keeping track of that sort of info if you get anything wrong affects peoples health and safety. Or any data breach would be financially destructive.
