Hi guys.

I am having issues with 2 systems after I updated them over the Christmas holidays.

First system is my partners work pc/home file server. She uses it for graphic design and photo editing hence why it's also our file server.

Its specs are

Gigabyte Z790 UD AX (ex demo)mobo

I7 14700k (new)with a noctua nhd15 (reused from old system)

2x32gb gskill Trident z5 ddr5 (new)

Rtx3060 12gb (used)

Kingston skc3000d 2tb m2 (new)

Critical 1tb m2(reused from old system)

4xsata hard drives (used from old system)

Cooler masters mwe 750watt psu(reused from old system 3 years old)

Second system is my media/gaming pc i run in my living room.

It's specs are

Asus strix h470-i gaming (used)

I7 10700kf (used) with a noctua nh l12s (new)

2x16gb corsair vengeance lpx ram (new)

Kingston skc3000d 2tb m2 (new)

Western digital 1tb m2 (used from a old system)

Rtx3070 8gb (used)

Corsair sf850l 850watt (was told it was new in box)

Both systems are having kernal power issues that result in completely random restarts on the first system and some bsod on the second system. But you view the event log and they are both the same error.

Both systems are fully updated with the latest bios. Running win 10 that I made the installer from the windows website. I have looked for a log file fir the bsod and can't find any and I haven't been quick enough to grab my phone to snap a photo when I manage to catch it.

The first system i had running for about a week fine with Windows 11 but then it did an update and was stuck in a boot loop for some reason so I went back to Windows 10.

I have looked at the windows when I was googling it and it gave scenarios of the issue and the event viewer basically show it like I am cutting the power but it's doing it on its own.

This is frustrating because I have be building my own computers since I was 16 and it's been 20 years and I have never had issues like this at all.

Any more information that could help let me know. Cheers.

Make sure latest chipset and disk controller drivers are installed too.

Does the time window these kernel mode come out about the same time or is it random what pc are resetting?

did this start happening recently or how long have this been an issue?

Thanks for the reply.

It's completely random with both systems. My partners pc did it 4 times inside an hour then wont it for a day. Htpc went days idle with no error used it to watch a YouTube video and it kept diving.

However both of these systems haven't really been getting used because of the issue and the holidays, The only real load my partners system has had is running plex media server and downloading various programs ect for her work.

I've only just built both systems in the last 3 weeks and since I put windows 10 on I've had this issue. I originally put windows 11 on my partners system and it worked for a few days without an issue and then it did an windows update and was stuck in a boot loop after that. I went to install 11 on my htpc after I completed it and I couldn't get 11 to install on the kingston m2 drive l.

My partners work pc has all the latest drivers but my htpc i have downloaded the drivers from the asus website and only half of them will install.

The main system I need to get working is my partners system. I can tinker with the htpc after.

I don't really want to be just chucking parts at them as I just spent more that I normally would in an upgrade. But maybe I will grab a 1000watt psu for work pc and see if it fixes it.

Is there thing I can do to fault check further. I have run hardware monitor to check psu power to the board but on the work pc it doesn't give me a 5v or a 12v reading.

The htpc all show strong Power on the 3v 5v and 12v.

Hi

I think it's odd that both systems have the same issue, and think it's something outside and follow the trace to a single common thing they have.. like are they on the same fuse, have you had issues with other electric appliances, like tv or light flickering or such.. but i assume you have already checked those off.

I would look into the memory timing, it looks like the big system have DDR5 and your smaller have DDR4 is that right?

Anyway, if you are running XMP on both, try to reduce the speed they are set at, or turn it off, or test with 1 stick to see if it is more stabile then.

If testing with one stick fails, try the other.

Kernel power can have multiple reasons, not just external power, or that the power supply isn't strong enough..

Since you are most worried about your partners PC, you could test your 850W PSU  in that system, important to keep cables with the powersupply, not swap them around as pins can be different.

It can also be a miss match on the memory to the CPU and mainboard, did you check the qualified vendor list before ordering memory?.

Well.. that's something to check before throwing parts at it 🙂

Thanks. Yeah I have just had my safety switches in my house replaced as I was having a power issue on a different circuit. So due to age I had them all done.

I did check out that all the parts were compatible in the gigabyte website and on parts picker. Parts picker just said I needed to makesure I had at least f8 bios so the cpu was compatible and I put f12 on. But I will go and recheck.

I have got xmp disabled and and cleared the cmos and reset the bios.

I am going to buy a new silverstone 1000watt psu and I will replace the power strip and power cord to the psu and see if that does anything. Most instances of this you see online usually end with I put a new psu in and it's fixed.

In a turn of events last night the htpc has actually given me some bug codes last night that I will have a look at, I was just way to tired last night to go through it all after work.

I have just re checked and my partners system everything is compatible.

My htpc on the other hand the ram isn't on the supported listed. I must have missed read it when I checked because the ram I got was CMK32GX4M2E3200C16 and the supported ram is CMK32GX4M2C3200C16. Just 1 letter different and the timings are slightly different. I have some spare ram from 1 of the old systems i will see if it's compatible and try it in that one.

i would try it at 3000.. you won't notice the difference.  QVL list isn't a bible.. it's what they have tested...

In a bit of a turn of events. I swapped the psu out and still has issue.

But I think I found away of getting it to reset, I downloaded snappy driver installer to make sure all of the drivers are good but the moment I run it and start the download it resets the system tried it 3 times last night after input the psu in and same result.
