Hi all 😀  I'm looking for ideas / advice on my GPU upgrade.

My son has a 1660 and I have a 3070ti and we are looking for upgrades, budget is around £800 for both cards and would be looking at new not used.

Ideas are to either upgrade both if possible ? or upgrade mine and pass the 3070ti to him. I have a 1440p monitor his is only a 1080p.

Been out of the loop for a few years as far as GPU's go, so not up to date on all the latest and greatest only managed to get the 3070ti by pure luck as purchased a non working machine and the GPU was working fine.

Pc specs are

PC 1                                                                PC2

B550                                                              B550

5800x3d                                                       5600G

32GB ddr4 3600                                          16GB ddr4 3200

3070ti                                                            1660

850w PSU                                                     550w PSU

Any advice or ideas would be great 👍🏽

Give the 3070ti to his pc, it's a great card and can handle 1080 easy.

You didn't write what model the powersupplies are. But hopefully his 550w can handle it, otherwise change that aswell.

RM850e by Corsair is around 95-100 GBP and for 700 pounds ish you can find 7900XT, 7900 GRE, or 4070 Super. Personally im more inclined going for AMD due to the massive raw gaming performance, but the 4070 is going to be better if you got any productivity that heavily utilises Nvidia GPU.

Luckily for you, there's a G CPU in one of your machines, so the suggestion is to put the 1660 for sale; once you get rid of it, hand down the 3070ti and get a new card for yourself. As to which one, lets see what AMD brings to the table this next month.

as for the cards 3070ti isnt much faster than the 3070 and 8gb of vram is pretty meh so considering you can still resell for like 200-250£ and the 1660 for somewhere around or slightly under 100£ then yeah think itd be better to resell and add to budget

apparently 9070xt isnt gonna be much faster than the 7900gre let alone hit 7900xt(x) perf so itll likely be DOA unless its sub 450$, theres a 7900xtx going for 780£ and considering that its faster than the 4080s and 24gb of vram ill put my reccomendation to this gpu

as for the kid just wait for the b770 to release as thatll probably be a really good value gpu considering the b580 at 260£ has similar perf to the 6750xt/4060ti and still 12gb of vram, 9070xt might also be worth it if it happens to be priced well enough to not be DOA or maybe even a lower end variant like the non xt or 9060(xt) depending on pricing and vs the b770

if none of these gpus are worth it then yeah just pass the 3070ti down

btw how long has this psu been in use for? looking at the wattage table its 528w so not far off from rated which means it should be atleast half decent though that config probably draws less than 250w even under full load

if a replacement is neccesary id reccomend the a850gl at 90£, just a decent psu with a 10 year warranty and at a decent price

if you want to cost cut then theres the a750bn at 65£ just that the warranty is cut in half to 5 years
