RAM question

Hi all,

 

I have a z-170e MOBO / i7-6700k with Hyper X 2400mhz (2x8gb)

 

I had 2x8gb corsair Vengeance LPX 3200Mhz kicking about so decided to put them in and I get no display output.

 

Is this because the 3200Mhz is incompatible or am I missing a simple setting change to get them to work?

Likely the RAM is either mixing too much or something just isn't compatible.

 

The less the RAM sticks have in common with each other, the more likely they can be unstable or incompatible.

 

Besides size, timings and clock speeds, the RAM components itself can be different, and this can introduce problems because all RAM sticks run on same settings, so if one stick can't work with those settings it can be unstable or incompatible.

 

One thing you can try is resetting BIOS before trying all 4 sticks, that way you can check if all 4 sticks could work at the base speed, but since they're different brand and speed, the chances might not be as high as if they were same speeds and brand and model.
