I have a Gigabyte 4070 super and I’m wondering what to upgrade my CPU to and whether it’ll be worth it for me to fully upgrade platform. I currently have a Ryzen 7 5800x with an X570 motherboard and I was wondering whether to get a Zen 4 3d chip or to go for a 7800x3d or a 9800x3d I play mostly fps games at 1080p (Call of duty and Halo predominantly). I was simply wondering whether I should sell my motherboard cpu ram etc in order to upgrade platform or if it wouldn’t be worth it overall in terms of improved performance. I have a 280hz monitor (looking to go closer to 500hz in the near future). Thanks in advance for any help 🫶

For 1080p your CPU is great for at least a few years.

I currently get about 200-220ish on call of duty and my limiting factor seems to be cpu because I play relatively low settings so I wouldn’t mind at least a small upgrade at least

Your CPU is on the level of 12600k. And past that tier, you won't see an increase, because there's not that much to do on 1080p. Unless you have 4090 and push 4k, there's is no benefit in purchasing the top-tier CPU for gaming. They weren't designed for that purpose.

I mean 500fps is like nigh undoable anyway. Not because of hardware limits most of the time but engine limits. You are currently basically near the engine limit of cod with the 5800x.

Theres some games that allow it but yeah dont bother with it. Also going from 280 yo 500hz is 1ms of response time diff which is legit human margin of error. You can achieve similar or better results by just getting an oled screen.

Halo infinite can do about 300 but not stable no matter the cpu. 240 is about the max it can do stable as well engine limits really. Still very good.
