heyy! so, during gaming my cpu goes to 100% usage and the game stutters because of it. while the gpu usage doesn't go higher than 10%, it's actually always within 1-7%. the game i'm running is dragon age the veilguard. the gpu is an rtx 2070 8gb, the cpu is an amd fx-8350. would like to update my cpu but can't afford that just now. sooo is this ratio of gpu\cpu usage normal? i genuinely don't know what's up with it lol, is it just the cpu being old or an indicator of another issue. thanks to everyone who could help out! <3

For that CPU, yes normal.

Welcome to the Forums! The CPU prevents the GPU from doing anything, so upgrade if possible. If you can't, then save up.

Turn up graphics settings to use more GPU.   Should help, we have this issue with STALKER 2 even with new hardware due to CPU loading.

They recommend actually turning UP settings.

Simply, you have a bottleneck. Your weakest link prevents any further performance improvements.
As for the solution to the problem, AM3+ is old, and unlikely to sell any sort of CPU's of that age.
I'd suggest, for a very budget option, get the cheapest b450/b550 motherboard, and the cheapest 3600/5600, and ram since AM4 runs off DDR4, not 3. Capacity wise, get 16, preferably 32.
Used market is a good place to start, if you're picky about it being used, buy new.

So As everyone have said, it's a bottleneck. As of right now, the  best you can do is to increase your resolution to probably 1440p and/or increase the graphic settings on your games.

The easiest explanation is that it's like having two people in a printing shop. One guy does the printing, while other is laminating and putting it to a frame. Wherein former can print 100 pictures an hour, however the other guy can only laminate and frame 10 per hour. So regardless how fast the person who prints, he would have to slow down and print  in the phase of the guy who does the laminating and framing.

fx-8350 is really old and wasn't even a good cpu, it was a good value for the money, but it wasn't a good cpu. Even ryzen 3600/5500 or 10th-12gen non k i5 would do the job for you. Actually even an old ryzen 2600 or i5 8400 can fix your bottleneck issues. Of course at the right price. Look for used pc or cpu+mobo+ram bundles that has at least 1st-2nd gen ryzen 5 or 8th gen i5 selling for less than $100(converted).

Overclock your CPU, 2 years ago I built myself a FX 9590 test bench PC (sold it a year ago), I was able to play multiple games like

-American Truck Simulator (pre 1.50v)

-Beamng

-INFRA

-War thunder

-VR Chat (in VR)

-Cities Skylines

-GTA V

-Transport Fever 2

-Left 4 Dead 2

I actually for around 6 months used the FX PC as my main PC because it was fun and was still fast at modern tasks.

Test Bench specs:

-FX 9590 @ 5GHz

-32GB 1600mhz DDR3

-1Tb SSD

-AMD Vega 56 8Gb

Now AMD's FX 8 core processors are not very good, your FX 8350 on a good day will preform like an i5 2500K (it can actually play Cyberpunk 2077). Upgrades for AM3+ are really not worth it, AMD released the FX 9590 in 2013 and that was the fastest processor for that socket, currently it would cost you 140 USD to get. I recommend since you don't have any extra money to instead overclock your FX 8350, most people were able to push them to the same clocks of the FX 9590, which is around the same multithread (8 threads) preformance of a i3-9100/i5-7600.

Now to overclock that cpu you need a better cooler, you can get a 70 USD 360mm AIO new from Amazon that supports the AM3+ platform, and yes, you actually need that cooler to keep that CPU cool when matching the 9590's clocks.

Now if I'm being honest this isn't worth it, you should overclock your CPU with whatever cooler you already have and make sure the CPU doesn't go beyond 70C.

Alternatively (and recommended) you should upgrade the platform your gaming PC is on. Money is tight but you can still make it work thanks to Aliexpress! Now only buy from a store called Atermiter (other sellers will sell their products and pit Atermiter in the title or photo but verify the store you're buying from is actually them), they seller reliable products with good customer support ad cheap prices.

this one is just under 70 USD after shipping and will offer double the multithreaded performance compared to the FX 9590 (both signle and multithread performance on par with Ryzen 7 1700). You should go for a bundle that is 20 USD more then this one, they can offer up to double the multithread performance and get you using DDR4 with options for 10 core Extreme Edition i7s or 24 core Xeons. Now I recommend going to AM5, or whatever platform the core ultra cpus use for future upgradability but those are really expensive to get into, even AM4 is expensive, new ram cpu and motherboard will run you up around 140 USD.

Either overclock your FX 8350, upgrade to a X99 aliexpress motherboard ram cpu bundle for 70 USD, or upgrade to AM4 for around 140USD+
