Does anyone know of any argb hubs/controllers that connect to a motherboard via USB 2.0 9 pin header?

My motherboard does not have any argb headers and I want to control my fans via software preferably PWM as well.

I'm aware of razer chroma and cooler master a1

But are there any others? These seem a bit expensive.

The only one I can think of is from NZXT, and that requires their damned proprietary connectors. Maybe they have an older one?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂

Yeah I saw that. Think it's this one

https://amzn.eu/d/9s1qnld

But then you'd need these things

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144419448973?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=0h9hzRa1Q_-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=bHdjqKF6SvC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

So £20 for the hub then another £8 or £10 for the adapter.

I used this on a previous build

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/135239982793?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=LYD1LQi5RVm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=bHdjqKF6SvC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

But the software it uses is super janky

With Gamers Nexus's new scam video about NZXT, that just reinforces my dislike of the brand.

I have and use this: https://gelidsolutions.com/product/amber5-remote-argb-controller/

Theyve done a upgraded one which is this now: https://gelidsolutions.com/product/amber-8-pro-2/

Very good product for the RGB control, uses standard 4 pin argb connections, it doesnt HAVE to be installed to your mobo, but you can, theres no proprietary software, its remote controlled with 336 different RGB colors/modes/combos..... BUT it uses a sata power connection to power it. I have a separate fan controller for my fans so i cant attest to its control of the fans or how good it is etc. but ive had it for 3 years now with no issues and does everything as advertised. Why are you requesting usb?!

What a surprise... the mighty Corsair may be not far off from the scum NZXT... and others.

Aquacomputer is justifiably expensive. I doubt Razer is.

ya aquacomputer just works no messing around. razer is cheaper thow and no idea how to use it. saposably there a way to make your own argb with it....🤷‍♂️ oh and razer you have to sine in so... there that

maybe argb needs to die and go back to rgb that 99% of people use anyway...🤷‍♂️

Naw, the remote works great and comes with a replaceable, i think the new 8 pro MAY not come with the battery though, 2025 coin cell battery which is the same as the 2032 but about half as thin. As far as remembering its settings thats no problem for this hub,, ive had my rig down for days totally powered off and it remebered all my settings. Ive never had a issue like that, BUT if you plug it into the motherboard for control then MAYBE it mmight not remember something in extreme circumstances, but imo, i think it would be ok like that too.

This is why i have all my stuff divorced from the mobo, the rgb is on its own hub, the fans are powered with a old Lamptron FC2, etc... so i dont have to deal with those kinds of ridiculous problems.

Gelid Solutions Amber 8 Pro

Gelid Solutions AMBER5

Gelid Solutions 5

Gelid Solutions Amber 8 Pro

i been watching it for a long time but imo i dont like the controller as thows cell battry ive broken the remote just by taking out the battery...

i had a like a coolmoon controller way back when that also had like 366 settings but most were meh. argb is so crappy that most people lower the bar so low they like dont care just want something to lighe it up at this point...i no we could have had better but it is what it is i guess... maybe when argb 2,0 comes out 🤷‍♂️

this is what lead me down the road of buying other controller that i never got around to testing. lightly better remotes at more diy connections. but i might have free time coming up so we will see i can do my builds and tests.

razer first hurdal was find the sofware... once you find it you have to sing in to a there stuff to use it so sending data to them.

the argb looked promising but i dont no i dont understand it. one youtube video said it once did save the settings after power off and then took that away making it crap...why 🤷‍♂️

corsair use to have there link stuff and had a lot more pc info like how much power you psu use for example but thats gone too and no idea how to use there argb stuff. its the best but still dont no how to use it...

thrmaltake there stuff was basic and first thing was want use to collect your data... and it was buggy never could get there loop stuff to work probly because i didn't have w10 even thow they had a fan with like 151 leds...other stuff was just buggy would just stop.

coolermaster the controller i had just never worked and could never get it to work... there rgb controller worked fine albeit other problems

lian li also alot of things worked and not never got in to there stuff and new stuff keept coming oit making old stuff usless. same idea like nzxt and them having a mic on there controller...why...🤷‍♂️

ek at one point did have a controller and gave out for free one xmiss when you spent $70 usd but it failed...

asus had a controller but it was costly and only had to headers on it well things like corsair had 6 and was cheaper... asus controller was the first to be haked to use loaner led strips. later on asus just added the controller to there mb so no more external controller.

agoo (or w/e it was) had a controller but it was like a coppy of corsair and cost the same so...

aquacomputer. had some controllers but had there small pripriataly conneter.. later on they gave in and put a stander connector on it. software is more basic in some parts and way to technical in others. now adays there hard to find. hard to import i guess. and there other stuff and questionable quality... despite the hi cost ill just say that.

i think that covers most of it? 🤔 atlest my rabbit hole of argb...

zalman also attemd on to but well...ya...hmm was like the same as ek stuff didnt work.
