Copius amounts of time spent on the computer, that's what!

Anyway, thanks for the appreciation man, I was just verbally abused by my classmates (racism lol) so this made my day!

Hey everyone,

I’m about to order this build and would love to hear your thoughts, ratings, and suggestions for improvement. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I am aware that 1500 Bucks for Big Data and AI is a stretch, the build is for a friend and I am trying to achieve the best I can do.

https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/xyZD8Q

Build Details:

  • New Build or Upgrade? New build

  • Reusing Existing Parts/Peripherals? All peripherals are ready, including a monitor with DisplayPort, HDMI, and a 144Hz refresh rate.

  • PC Purpose? Designed for medium to heavy programming, AI training, and big data processing.

  • Purchase Country? Germany (ordering parts online after comparing prices and delivery options).

  • Monitors Needed? None

  • Budget Range? 1400–1600€ (~1450–1700 USD, including tax)

  • Connectivity? Wired connection

  • Size/Noise Constraints? No specific constraints. Future-proofing is key, so larger cases for potential upgrades are welcome.

  • Color/Lighting Preferences? Prefer a clean, black/monochromatic design with minimal RGB (or dimmable lighting, adjustable to white).

  • Specific Features? Motherboard must support Wake-on-LAN and virtualization.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback—thanks in advance for your help!

Not a bad build. Honestly though, as you say, 1600 euros for a ML workstation is very tight, so I won't be focusing on aesthethics for my improved version:

So, let's walk you through the changes:

Spoiler

"Downgrade" to a 5900X, which might perform between 20-35 percent worse then the 7900X, but for coding is realistically gonna be enough for anyhting, and let's us use a cheaper mobo and RAM.

Uses more reliable Air Cooling.

Uses a ROG mobo with built in WiFi 6E and RGB so your friend can show off gaymer style.

Uses the same RAM capacity, but DDR4, which won't really matter.

Don't buy Kingston SSDs lol, they might perform alright in reviews but Kingston, as well as ADATA and PNY, have been caught bait-and-switching parts after reviews so.... just don't. The Samsung SSD here may not seem that much better but atleast it probably won't have inferior parts no one knows about.

Downgrade case to a less fancy but for the most part just as good one.

I normally would not recommend UD series PSUs because they're mediocre, but just you wait and see what all the minor changes can get you........

I managed to fit a frickin 4070 Ti Super in this budget! This will be a huge improvement compared to the 4060 Ti you had. I know I'm really streching the budget here but trust me, it's worth it

This certainly is quite the upgrade to the usual reddit response I am getting to these kind of posts... The systems seems perfect for the budget, really quite the upgrade. I always wonder how people like you have the talent to readjust and fit every last bit of performance in a tight budget like this.

I seriously appreciate all the effort you have put into the reply and the trouble you went through, if we shall meet some day for unknown reasons, ill be sure to buy you a beer mate, thank you very much.

An alternative with higher performance CPU and a step down in GPU performance. Has the advantage of DDR5 and latest gen AMD.

The A-RGB CPU cooler was chosen because it is the least expensive model. For a few more € a non A-RGB version could be used.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I mean, for gayming and regular coding this is probably about what I would have recommended (I still refuse to buy Kingston, PNY, or ADATA though). For ML though the 4070 is a downgrade over the 4060 Ti 16GB. You can wait a bit longer for your model to finish training, but you can't magic more VRAM into your card because you got a OOM error.
