So I was rearranging some fans and saw that I had left my Corsair Vengeance 8Gb (2x4Gb) memory in the slots right next to one another.  My immediate thought was to separate them correctly, keeping one slot in between, my board is an Asrock Z87 Killer by the way.  Anyway, this is where the trouble happens...I go to fire up my computer and I get a message saying that the "Memory in Channel A did not pass CPU memory test."  That made no sense so I restarted, like 6 times, to no avail.  So I switched them back and here I am with all 8Gb again.  What would've caused this, and how can I fix this so I can have my memory in the correct channels?

Memory that goes in channels next to each other wont work, thats not how its wired. Why? I dont know, maybe a motherboard expert on this forum can tell you. From my knowledge, RAM is controlled by the CPU, thats why CPUs only support certain frequencies and amounts of RAM. On a motherboard, if it has 4 or more DIMMS (RAM slots) Pairs will be colored. E.g. Pair one might be black, pair 2 might be grey, so on. Just keep them color-coded and you should be good.

Yo whats up.

Here's the problem, they aren't currently paired by color, and they work. But when I tried to pair by color, they don't.

Ok. I looked around and found another guy with your motherboard had a similar problem, and he replaced the motherboard and it works fine now. Maybe you have another Factory defect? How long ago did you get the motherboard?

Yo whats up.

I've only had it for a few days, just finished building my pc recently.

I find this so weird because I get all 8Gb when they're neighboring, but when I try and do it CORRECTLY, it won't work.

Maybe that's the way asrock boards suppose to work.

It's got color coded DIMM slots, black/red. I have one in the black and one in the red. Which shouldn't work, or work well, at least. But they do.

are you sure they are in the correct dim? 1&3 and not 2&4.

this pic shows the dim number.

This is the ONLY configuration I can get all my RAM to register.  I know it is incorrect, so spare your time, but this is my only remedy.

Also, that is as good as a picture as I have right now, I am not able to get to my desktop right now.
