Help with Upgrade Path

Go to solution Solved by venomtail,

Just upgrade to 5800X3D if in stock still, if not settle for 5700X3D.

1440p for eSports games might still be a low enough threshold where CPU performance is important but often pushing into GPU determining territory.

Of course, 9800X3D upgrade is an option but either you're looking now at spending 400eur to a CPU upgrade or all 1200eur for a new platform and I'm not sure you'd see x3 the FPS.

Budget (including currency): 1200ish euro

Country: Ireland

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Competitive shooters, etc. (lowish settings maximise fps)

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Currently running a 3080 FE 10GB, Ryzen 5600x, 16GB 3600mhz RAM
I have a 1440p 360hz monitor I got recently, looking to upgrade either CPU to the new 9000x3D series (full platform upgrade etc.), or go with GPU and look at potentially a 5080.

Since both are going to cost around the 1000 mark, I can only do one at a time.
My hunch is to go GPU first since I'm at 1440p, but since I run low settings to maximise fps I'm worried I'd still be limited by the CPU performance.

Obviously hard to predict performance of the new GPUs but just from an educated guess perspective, what would be my best option.
