My brother gave me his iPhone 12 because he got the 16 and my battery is in 79%health. Im capable enough and I have the tools to replace the battery on my own. I’m concerned though because I can only replace the battery with a non genuine one ,the one from I fixit , and don’t know what the downsides are going to be. It is going to show non genuine part and I don’t care if it doesn’t let me see the health, but I want to know , will it let me update my phone ? That is my question, apart from showing non genuine part and not showing me health what other downside will my phone have? Please help because giving it to a technician to replace the battery properly with soldering a new battery to the apple battery connector is too expensive.

Why don't you just order a replacement battery from Apple and do it yourself?

Apple does not sell genuine apple batteries. Every battery of any iphone is serialised and will work with the iPhone that it is paired with.

False. https://support.apple.com/self-service-repair

iPhone 12 Pro Max replacement is around $45 after you send back your old battery.
