I have spent more money than I'd like to admit on storage solutions for my video and photo work...and it still does not seem to work.

Earlier this year I decided to go with Windows Storage Spaces using brand new 5 12tb NAS drives. In the past few months I've had this system I had one drive fail and last night two others just failed.

When I replaced the first, I installed the broken one in a different system and run every test I could imagine and it passed them all. It has worked flawlessly since as a standalone drive.

This leads me to believe this is a larger problem with my PC so I'd like to find a solution that is isolated from my PC and that hardware.

Now that I am having more issues and my files are extremely valuable to me and my job, I need to find a new solution.

SO.

What do I buy with a high level of redundancy that I can edit off of(maybe 300mb read/write speed max?)? NAS is not a real requirement. I have gone around in circles reading forums and I just need a smart guy to tell me what to buy and use.

I'd love to use my current NAS drives but also don't know how I'l migrate the data over to the new system if they have 30tb of files on them...

If you want it separate, a NAS makes a lot of sense. Do you have a budget here? You can get premade or DIY, really depends on your needs. Do you have a preference?

Can you upgrade your PC to 2.5 or 10GBE? Thats probably want you want for those speeds.

Make sure you have backups of the NAS too.

Thanks for the reply!

I was thinking NAS too. I've got some experience making home servers, but hoenstly I am at a stage now where I just want this stuff to work and I don't need to mess with it.

Is something like a synology NAS a good option? My one concern is that if they go out of business, their proprietary raid software will go out of date and my files will become at risk.

Is that even a valid concern?

As for budget, I am trying to do this as cheap as possible, I don't have a whole lot to spend on this. Maybe max, $800?
