my current cpu-memory-storage-mobo combination is not enough for me any more (i am mainly video editing and from time to time 3d rendering)

i am planning to get a 5080 or if i could afford it a 5090 when they will came out since i can't find 4080's and 4090's in my region anymore

for some odd reason the prices of the 7800X3D didn't sky rocket here and i can still get it for around  360$

i wanted a 7950X3D cause in my use case the extra cores will be helpful but i thought about that and i think a 7800X3D will be good enough

about the mobo, i can only find asus tuf boards at the moment (B650, X670 and X670E)

i don't need PCIe gen 5 support cause for my use case Gen 4 is enough, however i thought it might be worth it to wait for cheaper (and probably better) boards from gigabyte or msi

(i don't want to deal with the RMA issues)

as for the RAM i wanted 128GB or at least 64 cause my work will benefit from those overkill amounts of RAM

6000MT/s is enough but i am not sure about the CL rating

i think the lowest i can get is 36, if not i can get a 5600MT/s kit with a CL rating of 30. RBG is not a priority

i need quite a lot of storage (and i need it to be fast) but i also don't want to spend too much on it

i think 8TB of NVMe storage is the sweet spot for me (only for gaming it's totally overkill i know)

but i will probably start with 4TB and add more later cause i do want to save some money

i thought about getting the Samsung 990 evo, 980 Pro or maybe the WD black SN850x

What RMA issues?

I use the ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI and have used it in over 20 AM5 builds without any problems 🙂

Please remember that AM5 / Ryzen 7000 does NOT like 4 sticks of RAM so I recommend getting 2x48GB DDR5 sticks if you want it to run with XMP / EXPO enabled.

If you mainly do video editing then maybe a 7950X would be worth it over the 7800X3D or 7950X3D.

The 7950X will do better at your tasks than the 7800X3D and will still be a very good gaming CPU.

you never mentioned that cooling might be an issue.

A decent air cooler can cool the 7950x 🙂

The X3D CPU's run a bit hotter than the non X3D's due to the stacked cache.

The 7800X3D will run cooler than the 7950x though.

if the pc wasn't used for gaming too i would get the 7950X

Sure. You mentioned that you mainly did video editing and 3D work and never mentioned gaming in your original post.

If you DO game, get the 7800X3D 🙂

cause i thought it would be pretty obvious considering the fact i talked about it in some older threads

perhaps i should have been more clear

Sure?  I am not going to go through all your previous posts just to check if you mentioned something 😄 And if I responded in them, I dont remember as I respond to alot.

Anyways, I think a 7800X3D would be your best bet and I have used the ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI in many builds, even with the 7800X3D and 7950X3D and it worked like charm!

I use the board and I plan on getting the 9800X3D with it as well.

Just dont get 4 sticks of RAM as Ryzen 7000 don't like it at all.

This is why we are starting to see 2x48 and 2x64GB sticks for DDR5 🙂

I just upgraded to a 2x48GB kit from G.skill (it's rated for 6400MHz CL32 1.35V) in my system because my Stable Diffusion Flux rendering was obliterating the 32GB kit I had, so far it's been amazing. I'm actually only just now doing real stress tests at 6200MHz CL30 1.35v with tightened timings inspires by a Buildzoid/Actually Hardcore Overclocking video on a 2X48GB Corsair kit that's also M-Die like mine.

If you want RAM capacity without spending north of 500 (which most 128GB kits are), a 2x48GB kit is a nice middle ground. The one I got is a G. SKILL Trident Z Royal kit so it's a bit on the expensive side for the fancyness, but their regular RAM is just as good.

For rendering as I'm sure you know, trying to go as big as possible so you have it if you need it is preferred... I'm glad I went 2x48GB because I fired up Flux again and if I'd only gotten a 2x32GB kit, I would've still been running out of RAM.

I'm planning on "upgrading" to a 9950X3D and a Asus X870E-e Strix board once those CPUs are out. Why that board? Look at it. 3 chunky M.2 coolers instead of just 1 like most motherboards have, having 3 m.2 drives under one plate (like my current board has) results in the heat load if any of them are being used being spread to all of them - and they idle warmer as a result too. My C: drive which is under the larger heatsink in my system idles 6-9C cooler than the 3 under the plate. I'm expecting the E-e Strix with its 3 bigger coolers to make me happier about my drive Temps... And it'll allow me to install all 5 of my M.2 Drives on the motherboard at once if I so desire (at the cost of the primary Pcie x16 slot being reduced to 5.0 x8 speed) - currently my 5th NVMe drive is running in a Sabrent X4 4.0 PCIe card.

All things to consider since you're aiming for a similar kind of workload build. Hope that helps.
