Precision End Cap Set

Go to solution Solved by thwipp,

you can see the threads. that flat edge under the cap is for you to hold it in place while you unscrew it.

Tried a few things

Well, what did you try?

Does it just screw on? Kind of looks like it might have a magnetic aspect too.

There seems to be a way of locking the endcap (either by pulling or pushing on it when in a specific position, or jamming something in there) so it  can be unscrewed, but I want to do it the right way and not mess things up.  The screw is hidden under the end cap so there's no access to it until you remove it, therefore I believe that's just a structural attachment for the bit holder.

The video apparently was taking a bit to come out so the trusty CS crew sent me this!

Thanks guys!!  Always the best!!

It looks like it's taking a bit longer than expected to get this video out. I'll do my best to explain this via images and text for you. To do this, you'll need either a 10mm wrench or an adjustable wrench.

Firstly, you'll want to open your bit storage and align the two flat parts like shown below:

0?ui=2&ik=1fdd00b33c&attid=0.1&permmsgid=msg-f:1811749427916718700&th=1924a08170fe426c&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ8aZ3FjXHuf_M-zaNbm3sqb7Z3vce9ABLiRftahwhjCtdP2aN7rXlrzMoZPJTYcaUnR2D8cny_RHXU5-XoVKAPRZ3cjHGhoNJ7yyuXz3DWyPUzrzHNMaqRiIYQ&disp=emb

You'll want to use your wrench to hold this in place while you unscrew the end cap:

0?ui=2&ik=1fdd00b33c&attid=0.2&permmsgid=msg-f:1811749427916718700&th=1924a08170fe426c&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ9QDtEDD8JfSGW4PqYs-snNDCcvX3T6rtnx754CGMZgPiDnhSG0K10VD749rbl-bHcKvqSPlCfd8giTEgKdeZ_tq7NCsc1bayipBuaZ3-fZetw9SPy54nmJbBs&disp=emb

To make things a little easier for you, you can suspend the screwdriver vertically in the air while you use your other hand to unscrew the cap (you may want to have something soft underneath the screwdriver, should you choose to do so):

0?ui=2&ik=1fdd00b33c&attid=0.3&permmsgid=msg-f:1811749427916718700&th=1924a08170fe426c&view=fimg&fur=ip&sz=s0-l75-ft&attbid=ANGjdJ9qMuArjUpl-e5srM2OfrGlM5d2y5fC_7uCOhE6uy6NaTdCxcmPRgyeTBHQfFKa181qhTrtw2BngV6eNkrRTPhUc430G-TwI3W-aEBUtH6zPtgL_J46FPgyc7c&disp=emb

Once off, you can install your new end cap through the same method.

Do keep in mind, it is possible for you to scratch the coating of this part of the screwdriver when swapping end caps. It is possible for some screwdrivers to complete this with just your fingers instead of a wrench, but some are tightened very well (and this may hurt your fingers/nails). You'll also want to ensure the end cap is securely screwed down for optimal performance when spinning the shaft (if you like to play with it).
