Just noticed while browsing techpowerup that the Radeon VII is listed as having an older latest driver then the latest AMD GPUs. Cross checked with AMD's website too, I doubt they're cutting support for the radeon VII as it was their flagship and is only 5 years old.

Anyone know why the VII isn't getting the latest drivers?

I'm not ultra sure about this, but maybe its just that the GPU is old enough that it will get the occasional driver update for bugfix and compatibility, but will not have a driver update as often as the new cards? I have a RX 590 and it seems like my drivers release dates are more or less matching Radeon 7 at the moment. And yeah while I have gotten 1 driver update this year the new cards have already got like 8. I think its just the normal procedure for such stuff, all focus on the new product but maintain some support for the old. Plus older cards probably need less driver updates because they are already quite complete? Although again, not an expert in this. Hope it helps.

Basically Radeon VII was on a decade old architecture which is GCN and AMD decided to cut driver support for GCN to focus on RDNA.

do you even need new drivers? i barely update  mine and usually there's no issues with even new games, i mean as long your card supports the feature requirements it should work, no?

pretty much... what are they supposed to add? you can only do so much software wise on ancient hardware..

Yeah its fine, I'm not even complaining tbh, everything works mostly fine, was just trying to explain in my own way what the other person did in in one sentence. 😂

It's not ancient yet... the radeon vii can play a game like Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra and even the gcn 2.0 r9 290x can play Cyberpunk too

Less is more, when it comes to older card driver updates?

Or reduced support?

I've been using computers since around 1978, started learning programming in 1980 on Apple IIs, started learning about hardware in 1990, ran a BBS from 1990-95, built my first Windows PC around 2000, taught myself malware removal starting in 2005 (also learned on Bleeping Computer), learned web dev starting in 2017, and I think I can fill a thimble with all that knowledge. 😉 I'm not an expert, which is why I keep investigating the answers that others give to try and improve my knowledge, so feel free to double-check the advice I give.

My phone's auto-correct is named Otto Rong.🤪😂
