Budget (including currency): 20000-40000 SEK

Country: Sweden

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Well the new Call of Duty for the most part.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): No peripherals are needed, only a monitor I believe. Im upgrading from i7-13700K and 3080 Ti. The reason, maybe its not something I should tell here, but I know my current build can handle much of todays games, and since I dont play any "highend" game it should be good. But, here is the sad part, I am 35 years old and have been diagnosed with cancer, non treatable. So the doctors has said I have a few years maybe. Thats why I just want a new, high end build. And also, I have always used intel as CPU so I kinda want to stick to that, I think?

So I know its alot of money but I really want a good one as "my last computer". And its fine, you dont have to apologise and feel bad for me. Im in the mindset of "it is what it is" no one can change it, doesnt help if people say Im sorry or anything like that. It is what it is and I will try to enjoy and do what I want until the end.

Build me the best computer for gaming please 🙂 I am streaming sometimes and Im using dual pc streaming so it is not necessary to think about that 🙂

Welcome to the forums, I am sorry to hear that, I hope you are currently doing well and great.

I would build something like this, you can basically get the best pc possible if you go upper in the budget: https://se.pcpartpicker.com/list/qJyPMV

If you want cheaper, get a 4080 Super instead 🙂

Can I ask, why AMD? 🙂 And Ive heard that 4070ti or 4080 is more performance for the buch? Am I wrong? 🙂

And thanks for welcoming and fast answer! 🙂

Currently, the 7800X3D is the fastest gaming CPU, even beats out the 14900K in many games while drawing much less power and cheaper

Yeah they are also great options if you wish to lower the cost!

That's what I would get - would even have put a 9950X but end up overbudget

Forget Intel it's just issues, high power bills and burnt stuff

Intel is struggling and falling behind. Currently the best CPU and by a large margin is AMD's 7800X3D. AMD was cooking for a decade whilst Intel had its pants down and years later they still can't get them up.

So AMD it is. Just gonna wait and see during the day if someone else is  having more examples of computer builds before I decide.

But a question. Is really 4090 worth this kinda moneydifference between for example, 4080 super or even 4070ti?

If you have a 4k panel, absolutely. 4090 is by far the best beast out there. If you have 1440p or lower, I'd say a 4080S will suffice to get you ultra in every game needed. Consider AMD's 7900XTX as well.

welp thats really depressing

got any other hobbies? your pc is already really high end and i dont think youll really see a diff upgrading your hardware so you might be better off spending your cash on other things thatll be noticable or bring some sort of happiness, at best you can drop in a 4090 but thats about all i can think of for an upgrade thatd be noticable and the rest of the budget maybe to an oled monitor or tv cause you wont be able to enjoy the graphics with a lower end monitor

since you have a decent chunk of cash maybe do stuff that you werent able to do as a kid or years ago or something? for pcs itd be building your old highend dream pc maybe something hedt based like x58 x79 x99 even x299

me personally i did end up getting my dream board from 2018 the asus p6x58de currently residing in my failed x58 gaming rig, unfortunately it ended up being a pos that cant do 200+ bclk and is outclassed by gigabyte in terms of mem oc as amibios boards can only dream of getting >2600 stable on an average chip

Spoiler

IMG_20240713_061216.thumb.jpg.0e5a3e8464376a3b5ca1479c455eefe0.jpg

where my x58a ud3r does 2800+ tri channel stable with ease

welp dream board being a pile of shit aside i do still want to build an x58 gaming rig for my daily though and i think id be pretty happy when i do get around to it now that i know how to really push the hardware mainly regarding mem oc, i mean 5 stick ddr3 2600 or 3 stick ddr3 2900 with cpu at 4.8-5ghz isnt gonna stop it from losing to a bone stock ryzen 3600 but damn it should still perform decently anyways

yeah i think youll be in for a major dissapointment with an all new gaming rig that wont be noticably faster than your current if youd have just stuck a 4090 in it with a monitor upgrade so my advice is to just fulfil your other desires and your (old) dreams, look at other stuff you want to do

you dont exactly have much time left so use it wisely, dont hold back and dont make really dumb mistakes like i did and end up with regrets that ill be taking to my grave =p

right i forgot about physical limitations

pretty depressing having to spend your last few years stuck indoors but oh well what else can you do without being limited by your illness

welp drop in a 4090 or 4080 super get an oled monitor/tv and you will have pretty much the best gaming experience you can though id also take sound into consideration

Haha yeah, I have always gone with the corsair but Ill think I try this one tbh 🙂
How about the motherboard? Asus vs MSI?

EDIT: And also, do I need some kind of rgb thingy I connect the fans too?

Holy crap dude, nothing like putting a bit of pressure on the team to recommend something that delivers!

Got the message though: not gonna dwell on sympathies and let's try and make it special 😉

First thought: your RTX3080Ti is gonna smash most games unless you're playing on some 4K high refresh screen? Worth knowing which screen you're using!

And on that topic, no mention of screen upgrades / accessories... so this is purely for the PC case?

Any considerations for accessibility or requirements going forwards?

A few thoughts on the parts where I've different from others....

CPU:

On 9/10/2024 at 9:11 AM, Eiinstein said:

Can I ask, why AMD?

7800X3D is the best gaming CPU - it matches or beats the 14900KS in almost all gaming tests (always better 1% lows) and is more stable and does all of that at half the power draw / heat output.... the only argument for Intel is if you need something that does close-to-best gaming AND slightly better productivity (e.g. video editing/encoding) and you don't care about power usage, heat or more recently the stability. Even then, I'd make the argument that a 7950X3D would probably be the better gaming focussed right that is also good at productivity.... the 14900KS + 7950X3D both come with compromises.... for purely gaming, it is 7800X3D all the way.

RGB:

Personal choice and your recommendations seem so have it, so I've put the RGB variants of most of these.... but seriously question if you want it.... I know it makes some people smile.... personally I would pull every LED off every part that didn't have a purpose, expect I don't want to break anything.

RAM:

I put 2x32Gb, but since you're not video editing on this, then 2x16Gb would be plenty for the next couple of years at least and save a bunch of money. Try to make it DDR5 6000 minimum AND CAS30 maximum. G.Skill / Teamgroup / Crucial / Corsair are all reasonable choices here.

Motherboard:

Anything that is based on X670 / X670E is going to be mild, but justifiable overkill.... personally I bought the model a few steps down from my ideal choice, but see my sig for details.

Cases:

If you have the space, that Lian-Li LANCool is awesome... and I do love my LianLi if budget isn't an issue.... plenty of similar Phanteks / Fractal / Hyte alternatives, so let us know if any of those grab your interest. Note that my favourite motherboard is EATX, so doesn't fit all cases.

Cooling:

140mm fans tend to beat 120mm and a 280mm AIO is going to be equivalent cooling and slightly quieter to a 360mm for all but the most extreme heat scenarios (a 7800X3D is NOT an extreme heat scenario!!). 280mm is my preference, 420mm is 2nd choice, but it will allow you to keep a solid block of matched RGB fans XD Only downside is that they're a tight fit in small cases like my Lian Li o11 Air Mini.

Here's my money ALMOST no object build: (adapted slightly for what I think are your preferences - i.e. RGB included, less storage since you have a second PC for streaming / recording)

Here's my money ALMOST no object build: (adapted slightly for what I think are your preferences - i.e. RGB included, less storage since you have a second PC for streaming / recording)

Haha hi! 🙂
Well tbh no. I kinda love to build computers so I just want to buy and build one before.... you know 🙂 I know my computer is still good ofc.
As of now I only want to be ready for Black ops 6. And, again, I know my computer would take it as a champ but yeah.

I think your build looks good too! I will probably change the ram though, or if you could find me some, eithe 32 or 48(?).
And the motherboard is maybe little bit overkill, no? Its hella expensive anyways. I dont know to much of motherboards but.

And yeah I have a Lian Li chassi now, and it looks so good!

And yes, I am kinda looking for a new monitor. Atm I have some ASUS 165Hz but gonna buy a 240hz.

Building computers can be a great puzzle with a rewarding outcome.... just wish this one could be in better circumstances for you, but I think I'd be doing the same if I was in your position 😉

G.Skill FlareX5 2x16Gb DDR5-6000 CL30 is always my go-to.... I only chose the TeamGroup T-Create as not only was the price a little lower, the timings were also a little better (the most important "timing" being a week earlier on the delivery, but they had the same clock, CL and came highly recommended).... The G.Skill Trident Z equivalents are at least as good as the FlareX5, but just with lots of unnecessary RGB. Your choice....

Yes, complete, wanton overkill.... but that motherboard is apparently amazing. Personally, I needed to keep the compact Lian-Li case (o11 air mini), so went with the closest motherboard to that which would fit: the ATX sized Asrock Steel Legend. Almost any X670 will be mild overkill for a 7800X3D, but the Stel Legend in particular also came highly recommended and still has a VERY solid feature set. I have always had ASUS for my last few, but their Armoury Crate software is now like pervasive malware... I've stopped using them because of it.

What resolution on the monitor.... if you're aiming for 4K, then a new GPU is probably worth it.
