Hi there everyone,

I bought a WiFi extender for my parents home a few weeks back but I've been having problems with it.

Basically, when I walk between one side of the house and the other, it will switch from the router to the extender but the Internet won't work until I disconnect from WiFi and then reconnect again.

My router is from the Internet provider Orange (Livebox 5) and uses WiFi 5 and the extender is from Strong (WiFi 6 1800)

For information my router broadcasts two networks : 2.4 and 5GHz and the router amplifies the 2.4GHz into two networks as well with the same names as the routers two networks respectively.

My question is : is there a way to make my phone switch from one to the other without having to disconnect from WiFi every time as its a hassle? Is there something I'm missing which would solve this problem?

Thanks for reading and sorry if my mistake is very basic as I'm not an expert !

i've recently had the "pleasure" to deal with orange's hardware.. and i can tell you that stuff is absolutely caveman dumb, and has no sensible logic to do handoff with a repeater. if you have no option for wiring at all, you'd be better off getting some form of mesh solution that can handoff between it's own nodes, and just ignore the orange box's wifi.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you mean, could you detail a bit?

instead of trying to make your devices switch between the orange box and the repeater, get two acess points from something that does mesh network wifi, and just use those as your access points.

But the WiFi network from the router will still be there won't it because the extenders need a network to extend? Or is there a way to turn it off while still getting the access points to extend it?

i mean.. it all depends, you can go wired from the orange shitbox to the mesh stuff, but it largely depends on the solution you end up going with.
