Hey, i have three routers, one that i use from my isp that is connecting me to the internet, two others are in boxes not being used:

1. Tp link AC1200( model archer VR400(EU))

2. Tp link (model TL-MR6400(APAC) ver 5.0)

the desktop is in my room and is connecting to the ISP router using a tplink usb dongle that gives 150Mbps, my ISP connection is 300Mb so im losing speed (usually only this desktop is connected, sometimes my wife’s iphone but she barely use it).

To have the desktop using cable it will be on the floor for about 20 meters and im less interested..

but i wondered, can i use a short internet cable to connect my pc to my tp link router, and then use it to connect through wifi to my isp’s router?

Yes it can be done. It pretty much turns an old router into a wi-fi adapter. There is firmware for doing this. But it doesn't cover every router. You would need to find firmware that is compatible with your router. I would be careful in trying to do this. Because if the firmware is not compatible it can mess up your router. It has to be a certain brand of chipset inside the router. But check Tp-links website I do believe that they have some routers that can connect without using any third-party firmware. So with Tp-links method there is no firmware needed to do this. But this can be limited upon options of the router. Depending upon your PC you can just buy a wireless adapter for your PC and it might be faster. They can be purchased without spending a lot. Such as an adapter that uses a PCIe port inside the PC. You can look up the information about your PC online to help find the correct path.

1. Which version is that?  https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/archer-c5-c7-wdr7500

2. https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-mr6400_v5

Probably supported with DD-WRT as well, may be easier to configure than OpenWRT

You could also check if the stock firmware supports something like WiFi Client Mode.

The better option if your desktop can support it though, is a PCIe WiFi adapter.

ASUS B650E-F GAMING WIFI + R7 7800X3D + 2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30-36-36-76  + ASUS RTX 4090 TUF Gaming OC

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) Backup: GL.iNet GL-X3000/ Spitz AX Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz) WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz)
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~1200Mbit down, 115Mbit up, variable)
