Fiber Patchcords

Go to solution Solved by Needfuldoer,

You need a single strand of fiber, with an SC connector on one end and an LC connector on the other.

The cable you linked to is almost correct, but it's a "duplex" fiber (two strands bonded together). That should work, but you'll have to separate the connectors at each end.

Hello all !

I am after upgrading my ISP to a 2GB fibre.

The new system uses a fibre patch cord between the FTTH box and my new ISP supplied router.

The older 1GB setup used a Ethernet cable from the FTTH box to the back of my router. Which, I had routed in behind my media wall.

The ISP supplied a 1.5m cable (photo attached) which is just not long enough for what I need. It needs to run behind the wall and backup to my router.

I have found the below cable from a local company. Would anyone be able to confirm if they are the same ? Or even a good source of learning for Fibre optics cables standards. Haven’t had to dive much into them.

just in short.. looking for a 5m version of the attached !! 😁

thanks !

Actually, not quite.

What OP shows from the ISP is APC as well and what they linked from the store is UPC. There are APC to UPC cables but in this case what they need is an APC cable on both ends and it will not work with UPC ends (blue)

Edit:

Green is APC and blue is UPC

Good catch, thanks. The wonderful thing about standards is that there's so many of them!

At least it's not multimode.

Very true, multimode is a bastard 🙂

At least single mode UPC and ACP is standard colors on the ends.

What I'm not 100% sure on and what I think OP needs to go back to their ISP with is that I've NEVER seen a simplex to duplex connector before like that in all my years of doing this.

Edit:

Ignore me, I saw the picture wrong

nvm, I'm an idiot and looked at the picture wrong.

It's LC to SC simplex cable, I thought it was some magical simplex to duplex connector at first!

Please be careful when installing the cable.

  • leave the dust covers on until as late as possible
  • dont overbend
  • dont touch the ends of the cable that are under the dust covers
  • dont look down the cable at the lasers, eye damage
