Heyo,

I've been told by many people to use a VPN, so now I'm wondering how that would affect my internet speed and if I could still play multiplayer shooters if I was to constantly use a VPN.

speedtest.net comes up with a ping of 18 ms, 6.18 Mbps download speed and 0.68 Mbps upload speed to a server located in my city, though I might upgrade my connection to support 16 - 18 Mbps download speed in the near future.

Thanks in advance :)

Speedtest.net is super inaccurate especially with a VPN, use http://testmy.net/. Your pings will be higher meaning it won't be very satisfactory with gaming also your download speed goes down a bit.

If you understand how flash works you'd know it's inaccurate and these are US servers only OFC it's going to be slow in South Africa.

Using a VPN while playing single player games that just need to "phone home" from time to time is fine, but they're not suitable for multiplayer.

I download from america often, why does their network suck so much then? also doing a test on speedtest gives me results a load closer to my realtime download speed.

It's because they're not a large server made for people acessing all around the world, and speedtest gives you a aproximation, all do in theory but speedtest is the least accurate also because the file is so small you can't tell if your ISP throttles you etc. I'd download a dummy file that's about 500Mb and see your download speed then upload a smaller 100Mb dummy file to Mega to see your upload.
