Country - India

I am currently using

5900x, asus proart x570e, corsair 64gb lpx, rtx 4090, samsung 990pro.

reason for thinking of new pc,

Motherboard just died.

Things I work with.

Docker, node, python, react, pgsql, mysql, redis, elastic search, graphql.

I plan mire to dive into learning Ai, although I do a little bit of ml in python.

Currently using office laptop provided, core i7 12thgen, rtx 3080 mobile, 32gb ram. Sometimes it crashes due to low memory. I am also supporting some intensive task using cloud, but I feel it is never so responsive as my desktop. I can get desktop from my company. But I have to work from office. But woth laptop wfh is an option.

Initial plan was to get 9950x when it releases, but now I am not so sure, seeing it as not so stable. 7950x I have doubts should I buy into old technology.

A colleague told mac studio is better at my task as well, not sure. So maybe buy a m2 mac studio or use laptop and wait for m4 mac.

low ram or low vram?

ram you can just upgrade to 64gb/96gb if you still have a use for the laptop after you upgrade the desktop

rma or warranty possible or no?

if the pc still works fine as is for your needs id just buy another board to replace the dead board if you cant rma/warranty it, then you can wait for the coming bios updates so you wont see any early adopter issues

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/q3qm6D

heres what id do reusing most parts if your old build since am4 coolers are mostly compatible with am5 and unless you intend to run dual gpus which you can on both that proart x570 and this proart b650 a psu swap is not neccesary either

I agree with those first two responses.

One thing I'll add is that, if running LLMs is something you want to do, and you're hitting VRAM limitations, then you could do 2 3090 ti's in SLI. that'll allow you to have 48GB of vram.

Not necessarily recommending this ofc. But if money is no object to you, and you want to run medium sized models, then that is an option.

I am hitting ram limitation not vram. I can upgrade that.

Motherboard, processor and ram is only thing if I upgrade to am5, I need.

Powersupply- corsair hx1500, cooling - custom 3 x 360mm. Case- 011d, video card - zotac 4090.

Laptop- rtx3080, 32gb ram this has memory full issue, not desktop.

Buying 7950x feel like buying something old. Buy 9950x scheduler issue feels messed up as well. Using laptop and cloud as of now.

Unless the 5900X did not meet needs why not simply replace the motherboard?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Agreed.  Why would you use a laptop when less than $200 gets you back up and running?

The 9950x scheduling issues will be fixed.

The ProArt can handle 128gb of RAM.

Is maxing ram not an option?
