Upgrade Suggestions

Go to solution Solved by Mayday793,

I would probably first get a better cooler which is the cheapest thing you can upgrade right now, which will give an upgrade the performance of your current build, and can be carried forward to your next CPU (Im thinking something from Noctua like NHD-15).
Next i would upgrade the GPU since your doing motion and some rendering which will probably hit the GPU more than the CPU. Maybe a second hand RTX 3070 will be a huge step up (i did the same upgrade path on that one)
Next you can get a Ryzen 5 5600X3D (or ryzen 7 equivelent) as that is the best CPU you can get for your socket.
Lastly i would get more ram as thats thats the least important in my opinion; 16GB Is still plenty for most applications.  I'm assuming you're running 2x8GB DDR4 ? If you only have one RAM DIM then maybe you could get another matching one since thats also a really easy upgrade.
You should still be good with the 700W power supply even after this upgrade.

WIth this path you dont have to upgrade your motherboard which saves you money. I dont want to suggest getting a brand new motherboard for brand new CPUs and DDR5 because you're getting by with this relatively old hardware so this jump is still going to feel massive for you at a major discount to brand new hardware.

Budget: I Don't have a budget constraint as I have a working PC and will be upgrading it over the next year.

Country: Canada

Games, programs, or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming and Motion Design (After Effects and Blender)

Other details:

My Current PC

  • Ryzen 7 2700x (with Default Cooler)
  • Gigabyte B450M DS3H (Micro ATX)
  • GTX 1070
  • 128GB (NVME) - This is my next upgrade
  • 16GB Ram 3600mhz CL18
  • 700W Power Supply - Not modular. Need suggestion for this as well

Edit: Case = Lian Li A3-mATX

I want suggestions on what part to update and in what order. I do Motion and Design and Some Modelling on Blender.

Thanks alot for these suggestions. Also one last questions should I save upto 4070ti or just get 3070ti. I will be able to get one used for around 300CAD from a friend. (he’s leaving the country)
