So im currently on intel and Im wanting to switch to amd I'm still relatively new to building pcs i've only built about 5 and worked on mine quite a few times but i've never swapped cpu brands. I'm just curious on what all I need to do to make sure the swap goes perfect with no issues. I'm gonna be using a new m.2 for the windows installation. I also have a flash drive for the bios update for the Aorus x670e master i ordered to pair with the ryzen 7 7800x3d and i also have the amd wifi driver on another flash drive. Is that all the preparation I need to make a platform change and also since my pc is backed up when i get windows installed will I be able to use that back up file so i don't have reinstall any of my apps, games and preferences?

That basically it 🙂

I like to do a fresh install of all the apps and games when I swap platforms with a new SSD.

Its a little bit more work but it avoids possible issues.

I always write down the main programs and games I have installed when I do a fresh windows install so I know exactly what I have to re-download.

If you have built 5 systems and worked on yours a few times I would consider you decent PC builder and this should all be very easy.

Update the bios with the Qflash method ( Don't need anything installed, just CPU and motherboard power from PSU )
Install windows.

Download the required drivers and motherboard chipset drivers.

Continue gaming 🙂

Okay I also have 2 more m.2 drives that are going back into my system that have just games on them they don’t have any windows files on them as far as I know would it be okay to put them on my new board with out wiping them or should I wipe them as well? I only got a new drive for the windows installation I don’t plan on downloading anything else to it except for the cpu files. All of my games are gonna go on my other drives.

It is possible to add drives without wiping them. For simplicity install the drives only after Windows has been installed on the boot drive.

Just because game files reside on a non system drive does not mean that the game can run in a new system without being reinstalled.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
