Heya fellow tipsters,

tldr; I want a laptop, I code for living in c# and I want to travel. Mac or any other brand? If so which and why? Needs to be lightweight but strong.

been a while since i was up to date to the newest laptops and so on, im here asking for a bit of help.
any advice is greatly appreciated and welcomed.

a bit of background, I’m a senior .net developer and I do have a ryzen 9 something with 32 cores I think, 64gb ram and an rtx 3080.

the problem that I have is that I found myself traveling quite a lot lately and I want to explore a bit more the “nomad” lifestyle of traveling and working remote.

that means, I can’t take my pc with me, so what laptops are out there BUT lightweight and I guess somewhat strong.

I do think about the possibility of just leaving my PC on and remoting in, but I’m not sure if that’s the best approach.

since because of the technology I work with requires windows, I would prefer a windows laptop. I was thinking that MAYBE I would go for a Mac because I switched from Samsung to IPhone a few years ago and felt in love with the IOS, but again most of my work is programming c# .net; so I’m not sure if Mac is viable in my case.

Should I try Mac ? Any tips ? Maybe VM or remote into home pc to test my code when it requires windows?

what about other brands of laptops?
my main “requirement” it would be about the weight of it. I don’t want to carry a 5kg laptop on my back.
specs wise, anything above 32gb ram and amd.

thank you everyone!

Zenbooks are pretty light, think mine ticks around 1-1.5 kilos or so, as it says on the sticker on it. 😄

LG Gram is probably a bit less weight, but it seems a little more edgy and spec-wise, not as good as a fully fledged Zenbook OLED.

Of course, there are also some other alternatives as well.

Framework 13" model comes to mind. I have one and it's really great for trudging around a college campus (1.3kg). Overtime upgrades are a big plus. For instance, they released a larger battery in the same form factor in the last few months that can be swapped out. They've worked to develop a stronger, CNCed top chassis (so, milled from a solid aluminum block). I don't have the top cover since I bought mine before they included that in newer 13" models.

I have had MacBook users comment on how much they like the keyboard (because, as far as I know, it's the same manufacturer).

You didn't mention cost, but you can leave out parts to upgrade them later on or use parts that you already have to install in your Framework.
