Download Ubuntu (which is a version of linux) best to choose 14.04 LTS 64 bit release, burn the iso to a DVD (or if you don't have a DVD or a DVD drive you can use a USB drive 'burn' it to that and boot from it), use it to your hearts content.

 

if then in the future you then want to go Windows, then all you need to do is backup your stuff from Ubuntu (which you should be doing anyway) buy Windows, and use the DVD that came with it or you burnt, and install it over Ubuntu on your SSD, there is no reason to use something like DBAN (and you should not use a wiping software like DBAN on an SSD anyway).

 

Because Linux is free you have absolutely nothing to loose by trying it out and using it before you make up your mind on Windows.
