Since they only movie and not really important data 1 drive for party seems good to me.

I dont have backup right now since I just started my true nas server isn't build yet

Have you bought those drives?

If not, I'd get bigger drives here. I'd start off with something 4x18TB drives. Then you can add more later on when you need more storage, and it will use much less power too.

How many drives or what size are you using? Typically the more drives in the array, the more parity drives you want. I'd say 5-8 drives is the cutoff between single and double parity depending on your needs.

Oops say 8 drives. Really depends on your tolerance for risk. I'd personally go single parity for more space. Worst case you can restore backups(you got those right?)

Also wd red drives are not to be used in RAID/NAS uses as they are SMR. Get something like a ironwolf or red plus drive.

Yet they are still marking WD Red as NAS drives.  I wouldn't want SMR even for JBOD, its a technology intended for cold storage.

Then again I have a few WD drives in my backup JBOD, no idea what technology they use.  My live storage is a mix of Ironwolf, Ironwolf Pro and Exos, based on pricing at the time of purchase.

Plenty of the WD drives are still CMR.  They are usually labeled as such.  With TrueNAS and ZFS I would say your data would be safe with one parity disk.  My NAS stores mostly full ISOs of my dvds/bluray/UHD collection.  It would suck to have to rebuild the array, but I could do it.  I run a 12 disk volume with one parity drive.  I am looking to move over to a newer BTRFS volume.  Originally it wasn't created as one since it wasn't an option at that time.

But I'm just talking out my ass.
