Before I go into my question, I have a couple notes:

  1. I am NOT looking for any critique on my part-list, I have already went around forums to fine tune it, and I am happy with it
  2. There is currently no NVMe on the part list, because I had one lying around from a (now dead) gaming laptop that I plan on using

My question for today has to do with storage configurations, ooooh

I have a spare NVMe (1tb) that I plan to use with Windows, so I can play games. However, I also would like to do some development. This is the idea that I had planned out in my head:

THE PLAN

I'd like to use the NVMe I have now to install Windows, but I'd also like additional storage. Rather than partition that 1tb out between Windows and Ubuntu, I thought of this:

  • Use one NVMe dedicated for each OS, nvme01 with Windows, and nvme02 with Ubuntu (Dual booting with GRUB, ofc)
  • Link a spare 500gb SSD up to windows (until I get a larger one) to install games

(nvme01 and /dev/sda = windows, nvme02 = Ubuntu)

And I was wondering if I was completely over complicating this, would it be better to just get a bigger NVMe? Is using nvme02 not efficient for an OS install?

Thanks!

That is some very slow DDR5 RAM.  Suggest 6000Mhz CL30 at least for the 13700k.
