Hello i am asking if its worth upgrading from my i5 2400 to an i5 4570 interms of just speed and overall performance (im paring with rx 550 2gb lp) i just want a cheap rig that can do the job and play a little bit of games so thats why im asking if its worth the upgrade or just stay on the 2nd gen platform. Thanks!

For games, there won't be a performance uplift from changing the CPU, if anything maybe a Pascal GPU would make the biggest performance uplift in gaming.

Since you'd have to get a new motherboard (and maybe new RAM), I don't think that upgrade is worth it.

Used AM4 would be a better value, since you'd have an upgrade path. Something at least 8th or 9th gen Intel would be fine too.

If you want to stick with your existing rig for a little while longer, look into upgrading your GPU. Don't worry about getting something "too fast" for your Sandy Bridge machine; that just means it won't hold the rest of your system back when you upgrade your core components later.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

A 3770K can be used in the 1155 system for a little more performance if you want, not a huge leap but it's still better than a i5 2400.
It certainly has a better IMC for more RAM speed, provided the sticks and board itself are capable themselves.

MUST agree.

If you want a "Good" boost in performance without having to spend alot, I'd suggest an AM4 built around an R5 2600 chip and a more basic board such as this one ( MSI B450M-A PRO MAX II AM4 Micro ATX Motherboard - Newegg.com ).
If you need more features than this board has you can still get a good deal if you shop around.
Speaking of the board I linked to, it's the one I've got my 2600 in and it's been a good one so far. 2600's can be found rather cheap on fleabay, that's where mine came from and it's been nothing but good.

8th or 9th gen Intel is another viable option here as pointed out above.
I don't have one of those setups or I'd elaborate about it.

Either way, it's a strong improvement over what you've got now and the chip, boards and so on are cheap these days to get so why not?
I mean do it once, do it right the first time and you should be set for years to come, considering the needs you have for such a machine.

Only real thing are the games you want to play - If some are for Win XP or Win 7 (Esp XP) you might want to go with the options you laid out yourself BUT know I can run Win 7 on the AM4 machine no problem.

Getting around the USB "Lockout" Microshaft tried to stick us with isn't a big deal as long as you use a CPU like a 2600 or older, it's when you go into the 3 series (R5 3600x for example) it's a real bugger and you can't get around it since the CPU itself has microcode that just kills it.
