your turn @brob, if you wanna give another example

Budget (including currency): 3k-4k USD

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I don't play any wildly intensive games, but I'd like my pc to be able to handle them just in case

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I don't need any peripherals, I'd like to buy now but I can wait for rtx 50 if need be. I can also go overbudget with no issue, this just seemed like a decent price. I'd also like a lot of storage space.

I have a barracuda 1tb hdd and a corsair cx750m, but was told they were too old on another forum lol.

you can keep the HDD, and with just 2k USD you can build a high-end machine, the only question is GPU speed, regarding if you need Nvidia's CUDA technology or better RT performance compared to AMD GPUs

I don't specifically need anything and can always buy all new stuff. I don't know much about gpu speed, but I'd like it to be fast without need for overclocking because I don't know how

You haven't mentioned the resolution at which you want to play. If it's 4K, you will probably want something like a RX 7900 XTX or RTX 4090. Otherwise there is no real need to spend anywhere near your budget.

I pushed my build to XTX, because of the slightly better RT performance on it (even though it still might be worse than Nvidia), and it will last them longer.
