RAM usage is showing as double what it should be

Go to solution Solved by starsmine,

Its lying. well not lying, its not telling the truth.
task manager shows what each task is using, the total percentage shows how much has been allocated, but the os can take that back whenever.

so a task that has been allocated 1gb, but is only using 500mb will show as 500mb, but for the percentage, it will count the 1gb.

I run into this ALL the time on my desktop and I find it infinity frustrating because I don't actually know if im close to page file and I have not clear indication of what is the problem if I do hit it.

The math never adds up right in task manager, its stupid, it should.

Like I have 32GB of ram, dGPU

Explain to me how 5.2 +.5+ .3 + .2 = 27 Windows, Please.

Even resource monitor does not seem to add up image.thumb.png.aecb054cc0bda12b1d83a8e469dd906f.png

image.png.0c9ac767625a7b39d1476a59c71feeb7.pngI have 2 8GB sticks of RAM(16GB total), windows shows that I have 16gb in task manager yet it shows my memory usage as 70% even though only 5.6GB are in use and sometimes when I run any adobe app my ram usage goes to 100% and slows my PC down even though only 8GB are being used. The ram sticks are in the correct spots on the mobo (I've checked multiple times). Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you using an iGPU enabled CPU and don't have a dGPU?

Go to the details tab and check the program's consumption in there, there may be some background stuff that's not showing in the overview.

The same way the Windows 11 is the 15th Major version of Windows.

This is counting all of the variant sub-versions of Windows 10 as 1 Major version.

If you want to get picky there were as of Oct. 23 40 sub-variants.
